Having watched the Ipswich keeper yesterday get no where near any cross that went into there box got me thinking . Despite what some on here seem to say I'd say Hamer is as good if not better than the keepers I've seen at the valley this season. He commands his box comes out to catch the ball under pressure is an excellent shot stopper has excellent distribution good with his feet . He gets better with each game and at the moment easily my player of the year so far.
Wouldn't say he was my player of the year, but as one who has criticised him in the past, I have to agree that so long as he holds his tongue, he is a vastly improved keeper this year and has been MotM for me on a couple of occasions. Nothing he could do about the goals on Boxing day but he encouraged and praised his defence yesterday which was a pleasant change. Certainly the most improved player in the team.
Player of the Season for me He is by far the most improved player from last year Only reason he won't get it is if he messes up in the 2nd half of the season or if Solly is still here at end of season as fans see him as a fave thus they would vote for him even if Solly isn't as brilliant as last season. Solly is playing well but due to the standard he set himself last season it's expected.
He has got a good goalkeeping coach in Ben Roberts.Have watched their drills and the way Ben works with them, very impressive.Where was Button by the way on Saturday?
Me and My Dad just assumed the Button thought he wouldn't come on or play so he asked Powell if he could have a proper xmas with a mountain of food and alcohol and that so Powell let him have it thus he wouldn't have been a good state to play Boxing day
Derby commentators were very impressed by him. I like Hamer. Think he's a good goalie and a good footballer. Wasnt there today, but glad he's getting praise Know he gets a lot of criticism for his flapping when it happens, but I prefer gutsy flapping to a goalie who is glued to the line. Conceding a goal because of a flap is not as bad as the succession of long range goals that, say, Elliot let in. Also understand why many see him as a negative influence on the team, but I don't agree. Reckon he's appreciated by his team mates, even if they don't always love him on the pitch.
Brilliant performance and staking a claim for POTY or even sadly (hope not) a sale in January. In other news, where is Button? Has powell given him the festive period off? Me and Dad assumed that for boxing day but today as well?
Injured I think. In the morning, I will find a link Edit, turns out I'm not as lazy as I think http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20121222-swfc-report-556474.aspx "there was also a place on the bench for John Sullivan in place of an injured David Button."
Agree with pretty much everything said so far. I've always thought Hamer was a bit of a knob as a person, and last season he made countless error's which cost us games. This year though I think he's developing into one of the best keepers in the league. Perhaps not capable of making the suprise 'dive to the top corner' saves that for instance, Rob Elliott would make, but his willingness to put his body on the line, come out to collect crosses, his ability at one-on-one saves and his faultless distribution more than make up for that. Altogether now, Ben Hamer, woaaahhh...He's Charlton's number one, he hates the Palace scum
Some absolutely top class saves today, but his incessant punching in the latter stages was putting us under extra pressure when we needed it least.
Heard a rumour Fulham are sniffing round Hamer and after that display and stockdales woeful performance v Swansea they will Definately enhance their interest
Certainly didn't do his valuation any harm in the last few matches. Given current form I would be sorry to see him go.
