Personally i thought they were daft going for the GC this season. Thought they should of just concentrated on the Ryanair & The Melling first then think about stepping up next season & going for the GC @ 9.

    From RP:

However, Flemenstar's trainer suggested his charge could drop back even further than the Ryanair's 2m5f. "Personally I think the Ryanair is a non-entity of a race, and I wouldn't think after that that he's a Gold Cup horse," Casey said.

"You need a two and a half miler for the Queen Mother [Champion Chase] and I think that's the race for him. The other fella [Sprinter Sacre] would be quaking in his boots if we turned up."

<laugh> Peter Casey we salute you!

I should frame that Ron, "came there strongly at the death when Flemenstar was treading water"

I'm a little surprised there's been so little said in here about Sir Des Champs performance today, if anything he is the one to take from this race as he didn't jump a twig and stayed on very well, he has for me ended the fears about not staying the Gold Cup trip.
Yes Cheltenham is a different track but he proved in the Jewson (however weak you think the race is) he acts on the course, bookies reacted by keeping SDC at 7s and cutting Bobs Worth to best price 7/2.
If I had to choose one it would still be Bobs Worth, but 7/1 SDC is outstanding each way value for me

What an absolute star of a bloke this guy is. This is the kind of fighting talk I'd love to hear more often in racing.

What a marvellous race and having read through this thread a few pennies of my own.
Tidal Bay: what a very talented rogue this one is. Ruby was rousting him along on the first circuit. Fantastic finishing burst.
SDC: a good few jumping errors but even so was finishing well. Must come into CGC equation if jumping better.
First Lieutenant: lost very little in defeat on ground that doesn't see him at his best. Proves he gets up the hill at Chelts too. Around 10/1 for the CGC. If I was to have anything ante post it would be this one at around 10/1
And then Flemenstar. Done my dough but still think this one is top class. Really liked the way he came back at First Lieutenant after being headed on the run in. Class horse with the heart to battle. There seems to be conflicting reports from the stable as to what he will target at Chelt now. I really hope his trainer goes for a championship race. It must be the Champion Chase and a match up with Sprinter Sacre. That will be worth the entrance fee on it's own. And to those who think he won't get SS of the bridle (and in the spirit of the pantomime season) ...oh yes he will!
