Gillingham View attachment 19956 Vs barnet badge.jpg Barnet Match Hub

Wednesday 26th December 2012 (Boxing Day)

    1pm- Priestfield Stadium

    The new hub
This is the new look of the match day hub and this is how it will stay from now on it still is the same but is in more depth. First time I posted this the game was called off so better luck this time. I will still post it before games but I will also provide more information so that this is better thread, this is still there so that you can post your team prediction and or also what you would like the team to be as that may be different to the team that MA plays. You can also chat before the game and during the game and then after you can analyse the match by giving a review, first by saying what you thought by giving a round up and then if you can you can rate the players out of 10 giving a reason why you rated them what you have rated them. Thanks and enjoy the game.

    Team News
Martin Allen should have a full Gillingham team to choose from, Chris Whelpdale has recovered and should be able to play. Barnet have some doubts, Clovis Kamdjo is a doubt after picking up a knock last Friday in Barnet's 3-2 win against Burton.
Barnet have 3 strikers who are injured, Collins John (hernia), Ishmail Kamara (shoulder) and Steve Kabba (knee) are all injured.

    Past meetings
Gillingham have won their last two meetings against Barnet, however we don't have a great record against them, hopefully we can build on the two game unbeaten run against them.

    23 Apr 2011 Gillingham v Barnet L 2-4 League Two
    16 Aug 2011 Barnet v Gillingham D 2-2 League Two
    04 Oct 2011 Gillingham v Barnet L 1-3 Johnstones Paint Trophy
    06 Mar 2012 Gillingham v Barnet W 3-1 League Two
    08 Sep 2012 Barnet v Gillingham W 1-3 League Two

We have not always done well against them but in the games we lost against them they had Izale McLeod who always controlled the game.

    Current league table
As of 25.12.12 we sit 1st place in the league, 5 points clear of second place Port Vale after 22 games we have 45 points. On the other hand Barnet sit 22nd after a recovery in form under Edgar Davids and Mark Robson who are joint managers. They have played 23 games and have climbed off bottom temporarily after winning against Burton however the two teams below them did not play as their games were postponed.

    HOADIE’S View on this match
This is a game that we should be winning and need to be winning, I know these games are not always the best but Barnet are bottom for a reason and we are top so we need to win this, I think that this should be a 2-0 win as we will outclass Barnet who will not be able to do anything to counter us even with the veteran Edgar Davids. The next 3 games are important and I believe if we can pick up 7 out of 9 points on offer we would have done very well.

    The score line and scorers
I think that we will win this game 2-0, we will control the game from the start and go 1-0 up early on with a goal from Chris Whelpdale then in the second half we will score again with Myles Weston getting the second. Final score 2-0.

    Bets
If you have any bets that you have placed and you want to share them you are free to share them on here, I am also willing to share any bets that I have placed, you can ask if you want.

That was not good at all Montrose needs to come off also Burton and bring on Whelpdale and Birchall or Kedwell. Barnet have have us loads of chances and we are not taking them.

A totally pants result and MA needs to kick some butt over this one. Even a draw would have felt like a loss....and points are slipping away as is our goal difference. The BBC write up says it all at present. Our 'blip' has been going on too long. Southend are on fire and we stand to get roasted at Roots Hall. Northampton.......they will come here licking their lips too.

"Martin Allen's side have now picked up one point out of a possible last nine on home soil.
Although they remain top of League Two, they have won just once in their last five games."

Let please not have any excuses or other platitudes......sort this out and sort it now please, as our current form isn't even mid table.

It was awful. Worst performance in years and exactly the same as Fleetwood and Exeter with the opposition in total control. The midfield was dismal with them all out of sorts. There was a collective groan when Kedwell's name was omitted from the starting line up. I doubt if this reflects positively on Kedwell but more likely the dismal Burton who, despite the odd clever trick, contributes so little to the team. Today we had rock bottom from Vincelot, nothing going right for Weston and Montrose overhitting his forward passes but it got worse with the intro of Payne. Fish and Davies emerged with slight credit but the overwhelming impression was the gulf in class and running....against Barnet.
The first half was played in midfield with Barnet just having the edge and their lanky defenders coping with some comfort. If Allen thought our little guys could outrun their big statues he was wrong. The second half brought a bit more territorial gain for Gills with more possession but few chances. Whelpdale and Birchall added a bit of momentum after an hour but the Barnet goalie had a comfortable second half with just a couple to tip over the bar.
Gills are not really this bad and Allen should have enough nous to sort it out. He needs to start with himself and decide on his best XI then stick to them and make sure Jackman is not far from the action. Oh to have brought Jackman on at half time today and been given a few subtle passes.

Very disappointed with Deon Burton today. Only a week or so ago I said, IF we were seeking of changing Keds up front, who would we get to replace him in the same role. So to be clearer, I already exclude Birchall and Myles Weston from that criteria because they need to be playing off the front man. The one answer I did find today is Burton is not that player and I already said previously it is not Strevens. So Keds has to start at least every home game, unless change(s) are brought in.

Burton was solid in position but his distribution was non-existent most the time. As for Myles Weston, how many times for fear of repeating myself do I have to say, put someone else on the left, he needs to play further infield with a free role, he was playing too close to Burton at times, I know it's difficult with the offside trap but come on MA we can do better than this.

How must Callum Davies feel as a young man having done his job today and taking on none other than Edgar Davids, PROUD and memories for the future. Well done on MOM.

Nelson, great keeper but i am fed up with the ball constantly being launched, several well awry.

Charlie Allen, no comment from me, I heard enough of them from the guy in Medway Stand for 90 minutes. WINDYROG I hope that was not you, if it was you did my head in - lol

Barnet outplayed us in every department today, I hope to see vast improvement by Saturday otherwise Bayo will show us how the job is done.

Final words in the direction of MA, scrap this rotation system and play your best eleven until such time we solidate our position again. Two signings needed in the January window, David Wright and someone else to challenge Keds for his place. I would say another left winger but I just cannot understand why Jackman is not playing.

    Disclaimer, I'm no tactician!

It is hard to talk about today it is annoying how bad we played when we know we can do a lot better, what is wrong with them. I will write a review later or tomorrow however there is not much to be said after that.

The dreaded 4th spot and the playoffs, at this rate, are looming. Just want the autos but our buffer twixt that and the playoffs is now too close for comfort. I really anticipate a spanking at Sarfend.........sadly.

In my prediction I did us to lose 1-0. This is because I've not been convinced by our performances over the last month or so, and bottom team fighting for survival, is always going to be a tough task with the top team struggling for consistent form. Why we start Charlie Allen is beyond me, he had a perfect opportunity to pass to Birchall who was in a good goal scoring position but opted to try to take the glory himself, and his general play and passing was very poor. I think it's also apparent that Weston is much better as an impact sub, he's never looked that good as a striker starting from the bench, because basically he's a winger, and relies on speed and trickery to get him past players, but playing alongside Deon he instinctively goes wide, but then there is only Deon in the middle. As a sub against tiring defenders he's good, but starting a game, not for me. Why when we were playing as we did yesterday, does Nelson insist on launching long kicks into the opposition half? The two lanky centre backs of Barnet won everything in the air as they were so much taller than Burton and Weston, and Weston can't head the ball anyway. Lastly I'll come to Adam Birchall. I thought he looked very quick and agile, and I don't know if I'm imagining this or not, but I thought he looked very tentative in the tackle. Don't get me wrong, I think its understandable given his long injury, but not going in 100% is a sure way to get hurt again.

Hoadie I will do an overall team performance review for you
    RUBBISH
As has been mentioned Davies & Fish emerged with some credit - the rest, especially Montrose would have been better employed as the back end of a pantomime horse ( sorry Tommy Trublu - no disrespect to you)

Yeah I was going to just sum it up like that but decided I will review each player, it is hard in these games as all the players are around the same.

Nelson 5- Kicking was not good at times, yes the wind and rain did not help but he has played better, looked to take a few risks by taking time with a few kicks when he had someone chasing down the ball.
Fish 6- Not his best game but he was not at fault for this, he did sometimes leave us open but he along with Davies was probably the best as we were so poor.
Davies 7- It was right to name him man of the match as he played well and after being dropped (Rested as MA put it) he done well as Frampton was not as good playing with Barrett as he lacks pace, he dealt with Edgar Davids well and I praise him for that.
Barrett 5- Not a great game for Barrett can't say much else as he was just the same as most of the players, Poor.
Martin 4- He left us open at the back and we were exposed too often.
Vincelot 3- I think he was very poor, he has not been great lately and since he arrived we ain't really played well, I thought he would be good at gaining the ball and passing it, he does collect it many times but then he wastes it like Montrose.
Lee 5- He did not work as hard as he usually does, he looks right off his game.
Montrose 3- Very poor, just like Vincelot, wasted the ball and did not complete many passes.
Allen 4- He was poor he did not work great and his passing was shocking.
Burton 3- Looked very poor, did not jump high enough for the ball in the first half where we had chances he did not take them, he looked very slow and leggy.
Weston 5- It did not work like against Fleetwood, I thought he would rip Barnet to pieces but they seemed prepared for him, he did not take his chances and when trying to create chances he did not complete the passes.

    Subs
Whelpdale 6- He did not do too much when he come on but he was a lot better than the likes of Montrose, Vincelot, Allen and Burton, the midfield in this game was the poor part of the team yeah I know the rest of the team was not that good but if you could highlight the poor part of the team it was the midfield which is strange as at the start of the season I would say this was our strongest part but with Jackman not starting, Whelpdale not starting and also Payne not starting it don't look great.
Payne 6- Passed the ball better than Montrose and we looked stronger with him but it was far too late.
Birchall 6- Looks like he has an appetite to score but he did not get the ball in good enough positions, he was close late in the second half but that was not enough however I have been saying for ages it is about time he starts a game as I think he has the goals in him however I not sure if he would be prolific in the league, this may have been caused by the injury.

My man of the match was Callum Davies as he did work hard when the rest of the team failed to do so and I am happy he recovered after a bad run of form as I have always thought he is a great player.
