So guys... the transfer window is nearly upon us.
Here's a little poll to see how you think things will pan out when the window closes.
Do you see us, post window vs pre window having a squad which is:

    Stronger
    Weaker
    The same

    Over to you.

For me... I genuinely believe we will be much stronger overall.

Hard to say these days, I think we will lose Ba and considering our refusal to budge on transfer fees and Spurs circling our transfer targets as usual (supposedly) then we may end up in trouble. I do have a sneaky feeling someone is lined up and we may get another Carr beauty (basing this on our limited dealings over the summer, we only brought one senior player in but there must have been dealings going on then and since) so maybe it will be good times. Hard to say.

We will sign one player and lose Ba right at the end of the window giving us no 'apparent' time to react. I have no issue with Pardew at all just the monkeys hopping around above him who think you can simply make up transfer fees for top players and expect selling clubs to lower their valuation by 30% just to please us.

Our negotiation skills are awful, we only sign players if we find clauses in their contracts or if like with Cisse last year the selling club decides to drop their valuation of a player and offer them around. It very rarely comes from the board room skills of Llambias and co.

Absolute no confidence in the board to do the right thing this window and they could pay the ultimate price if they don't.

Stronger. I expect we will get two and lose no one. As such we'll be stronger if the ones we get are at least half decent. Just hope ones a centre back.

I think we will sign on or two, if we don't lose Ba this transfer window, we will definitely lose him in the Summer, one or two managers have already indicated they don't like doing business in the January transfer window, but prefer to wait until Summer, or I think Ba would be a dead cert to leave.
I hope we have no surprise departures, and I hope any business is done at the beginning of the transfer window, not at the eleventh hour!

We will be stronger and the reason is simple.

We are relegation battlers now. If the board isn't worried about our league position now then I don't know when they will be. So I think they will sign about 2 players(always fall short of what we hope for, which is 3 or 4) to strengthen the team and move forward. I think we've quality to compete high up the table, but they aren't performing up to the mark. Having talent and the performance to match it are two different things.

I think it depends if we are looking short term or long term.
Short term I think it will be stronger as although we will lose 1/2 "purple" players we will sign 3/4 players which strengthens our squad.
Long term wise, the losing of 1/2 purple players and replaced with 3/4 good squad players is overall a weakness

I think we will sign at least one defender, even Fat Mike can't ignore our dire need for one (actually two) right now. It has cost us dear, ship out Willo while you are at it! Hopefully Remy to replace Ba.

Voted stronger as we simply cant afford to stand still or go backwards and Pardew is making sure the board know it, not massively but my guess would be we will strengthen the defence and then replace what goes out else where .

Yes, we may strengthen the defence, but what if we replace our "purple" players with mauve players? (Example replace Ba with Charlie Austin) Surely we are then stronger in one area but weaker in others?

I meant replace them like for like otherwise as you say that is weakening the squad. If we swap Ba for Remy would you see that as a step backwards?

If it is like for like then yes, we will be much stronger. I don't think Remy signing is a step wholly backwards, but selling Ba and signing Remy isn't wholly a step forward either in my opinion especially as they would have different roles. If we sell Ba, we need 2 strikers coming in - one to play that elusive Left Forward position, but also another player who could possibly play a target man/central striker for when we want to change things (we can't rely on Ameobi every single game)

But could Austin cut it in the PL, and secondly, with the season he is having at the moment, what inflated price would be slapped on him.

Would your board pay over the odds for a player, or would your board be looking in the bargain basement?

It seems to me that the bargains to be had at the moment are either Dutch or Belgian from what I have seen or read.

I doubt very much he could cut it in the Premiership - I heard rumour though that we were after him!
As for Dutch strikers - they appear to be just as expensive!
