I thought we played better last season when we beat you 2-0 under Barmby. Last night we showed we could grind out a victory and i'm happy with that, as you aren't always going to have it your own way. As you said, we put some decent balls into the box but nobody was on the end of them- this sums us up unfortunately this season. The only grumble we have at the minute is, we don't have a target man to get on the end of crosses. Simmo holds it up well and gets people from midfield into the game but there's no end product. Think Derby's home form will get them within a chance of the playoffs. I can see you're very strong at Pride Park. I liked the look of that Hughes in midfield. Great goal from your lads. Great crowd at PP, wish we;d set the prices at that level. All the best, except for the return match.
That's two sets of reasonable fans in recent weeks, where decent discussion was had. The Watford lads were sensible and now a pleasant Derby fan. Compare that with the cockjockeys from Leicester and Leeds.
Very decent post . I thought you looked quite a good side, Hughes wasn't as good as I was expecting, having read all the reports on him, perhaps stifled by the crowded midfield. My first visit to Pride Park and I was impressed with the ground. Chatting to Derby fans on the way back to the car, I think (don't quote me on this) but is that the first time you have played 5 in midfield at home? It showed at times, players seemed to be on top of one another and not 100% convinced on their roles. We weren't by any means at our best, but nevertheless it was a decent enough game. Faye has a better goals to game ratio than most of our attackers Good luck for the rest of the season.
It cuts both ways. I often have a look at opposition fans sites after a game to get the opposing view. It was refreshing to come on here and see a balanced analysis, giving us some credit for trying to play football too.
Thanks DerbyLad, pretty much everything you've said there about us is spot on. We're always moaning about missing chances but generally it's the crosses coming in and no one being there like you said. Our wide men get a hell of a lot of crosses in but we don't seem to have a striker who gets on the end of them properly. I suppose Derby are a team I wish well, you've had a hard time of it recently. We both came down from the PL with similar problems having spectacuclarly ****ed up off the pitch while we were there, but we seem to have got it out rather easily by having a new rich owner come in whereas your situation wasn't as bad as ours but has taken much longer to sort out. Not really fair but it's impressive that you've still got so many fans after so many average seasons.
They've got money and history respectively, so who cares how **** they are now? They're still in a position to gloat... Apparently...
Derby yesterday reminded me of us last year, pass it very well in triangles at the back, took it well in midfield but as soon as they got in our third they had nothing. Admittedly, our centre halves where brilliant, literally brilliant. I think we where clinical and we had another gear if we needed it, just we didn't need to. Overall another three points and a decent display.
He has got similar scores for our other festive games as well. Poor Erik, just not his game really. 14 wins from 23 games looks pretty danady to me. The same again in the 2nd 23 games of the season will do me fine. 88pts = A Top 2 spot. A fair assessment. My only observation would be that Clough should have brought on Theo Robinson much sooner. Salmon was doing very little on his own. It took a worldy goal to breach us.
