Mainly because we accept that it's the wrong way to do it, as we found out the hard way to our detriment and are still suffering for it today. For example, had we not tried to buy the league and had our fall from grace, we wouldn't have to put up with Hull fans thinking they can stand shoulder to shoulder with us.

I'm glad. I want us to earn success.

Proof please? Attendances and fanbase of football club are higher than both the RL and RU clubs.

Nope, because fans are boycotting, and two club cities always have higher gates due to nature of constant rivalry.

<laugh> A poll designed to show leeds has some support in leeds, so out of towners are less likely to contribute shows 50%. That's support for the claim leeds people have little interest in the football club. By that reckoning there's less than about 7,000 Leeds fans in Leeds. <laugh>

Was that an anti-Bates protest at the 80 minute mark of the Chelsea game when people started marching out together?

Indeed, most of them coming from the South London and East Yorkshire areas.

No, it shows that our strong support in Leeds is replicated across the country as well. We have 900,000 fans in the UK - perhaps 1/3 of them in Leeds, 1/3 in the rest of Yorkshire and the rest spread about.

HAHAHA COS HULL FANS ALWAYS STAY TIL THE END WHEN THEY GET WHIPPED. 'tard.

Given that by your own figures there are less than 7,000 Leeds fans in Leeds, that's quite possible. <ok>

I never gave you that figure. I said 50% of Leeds fans are from Leeds, roughly, and there are 900,000+ Leeds fans in the UK alone according to polling data.

I thought you said 1/3 from Leeds, 1/3 from other areas of Yorkshire and 1/3 from elsewhere.

Maybe I read it wrong but I'm sure that's what you said.

Yeah. Leeds don't have any fans. That's why this happened this morning. <ok>

That's a guess of the overall fanbase, since it would seem a lot for 450,000 of our fans to come from Leeds (which would comprise almost the entire male population!)

In reality, this forum probably isn't the most representative poll, but our support in Leeds itself is not poor in the numbers we have, it's just the gaping chasm between their ambitions and those of the club, and the process of bridging that gap starts today. So plenty to look forward to! Might even treat myself to a half season ticket if they're well-priced.

I'd say 50-60% of blokes I know from Leeds support United, and about 20% of women. So I think 300,000 fans in the Leeds Metropolitan Area sounds about realistic. Of those I suspect 70,000 probably go to games on a semi-regular basis, and 30,000 on a regular basis. Similar for the rest of Yorkshire, probably a bit more swayed in the favour of staying at home when you look further afield.

I won't even pretend to know what that means but whatever it is I am really impressed.

Or not, as the case may be.

Am I right in thinking there has been a sharp increase in Man Utd supporters in Leeds over recent years?
If so would that be down to young lads supporting Man Utd because they win things and that Leeds are an average Championship side haven't won anything in twenty years and may not win anything for another twenty years.

That's honestly not meant as a dig but a reasonably thought out observation.

Twenty years ago you've have got your head kicked in for wearing a Man Utd shirt in Leeds.

That's not the case now is it?

Not in my experience. They've always made up about 10% of the fans here, even when we were as good as their equals in 00/01. Can't say I've noticed an increase. Only clubs I've noticed more in recent years in Leeds are Huddersfield and Hull, no joke!

But yeah, they certainly get less of a rough treatment than they would have done back in the day. To our shame. I always see this mentally ill bloke in my area who paces up and down the high street in a red Man U cap and I just feel sorry for the ******ed Munich **** more than anything.
