Recent talk of dropping attendances and a potentially bigger stadium, prompted me to look back at our highest attendances each season, as we moved up the leagues: 2002/03 Dec 26 Hull City 2-0 Hartlepool United 22,319 League Two 2003/04 Apr 24 Hull City 0-0 Huddersfield Town 23,495 League Two 2004/05 Apr 30 Hull City 1-2 Sheffield Wednesday 24,277 League One 2005/06 Apr 1 Hull City 1-0 Leeds United 23,486 Championship 2006/07 Jan 30 Hull City 1-2 Leeds United 24,311 Championship 2007/08 Apr 26 Hull City 2-1 Crystal Palace 24,350 Championship We pretty much hit capacity from League One onwards, there's definitely potential there with a successful team, though it's also a stark reminder of how far things have dropped at the moment. Our highest gate so far this season was 17,782 against Burnley, though the upcoming Leeds and Leicester games should take us into the 20's again.
I headr the other day that the drop this season is mainly to do with the removal/reduction of the freebies and that the number of people "paying" to watch has remained quite constant. Not sure if the numbers add up completely but this certanily accounts for a fair few...
Boxing Day / Christmas fixtures often see an increase in attendance and I think both Leicester and Leeds gates will be over 20 thousand. In OLM's list, we could've gone up to League 1 on the day of the 0-0 with Huddersfield, we were already up to the championship when we lost 1-2 to Sheff Wednesday and the 2-1 win over Palace kept our hopes of automatic promotion to the Prem alive.
We gave away a couple of hundred tickets to scouts, players, ex-players and people who helped the club in various ways, it's not significant.
I hate how people are moaning about ticket prices, we bring in a Premier League manager, top players, playing some of the best football we have ever played, spent money, all out of the Allams pockets. Obviously ticket prices are going to go up bearing all that in mind.
Could not agree more ^^^^ this. The money that some folks no longer have and the Barmby summer fiasco have also played there part in gates being poor. Also the away fans have been missing. Only 2 away gates have been over 1000. Sign of the times. I would suggest that many have been saving and waiting for the fextive fixtures with Lesta and TWS and i do expect gates of over 24,000 for both these games. It would be a surprise if Lesta and TWS did not take / sell there full allocation of tickets. Just like in 2008, I also expect the home gates to rise once the promotion bandwagon gathers more pace. Many factors can be blamed for lower gates but maybe just maybe a change in the trend is about to happen. TWT.
People screamed and shouted for goals and quality of players to improve, what did they expect to happen when we brought in the quality? I do think that the Huddersfield game was a low attendance as people saving for Leeds and Leicester, also it was a 12:30 kick off and a lot of people work saturday mornings. I expect the gates to be over 20,000, Leeds have sold out and I'm sure Leicester will also. If we go up the attendance will go up but I do worry that like Bolton and Wigan, if we make it this time and go a few seasons the attendances may drop. That's my worry.
Over 24000 is being a tad optimistic would you not say Tickles? 21000 or maybe 22000 but 24000? Sheeeeet.
With the right prices the KC can be full every home game. But we must get this segregation issue sorted as it leaves far too many empty seats for my liking.
Its Christmas time and everyone loves festive fixtures. With 2 sell out away followings why not ? If its not 24,000+ them shame on Hull City fans imo.
I think you'll find that segregation hasn't been an issue for a couple of years now and it won't be unless we get promoted.
You've made a slight mistake OLM. The Hartlepool game was 2002/3. In 2001/02 we were still at BP all season. The Donny and Huddersfield ones were actually both 03/04, so the Donny one shouldn't be in the list at all.
Bit unfair on those who can't afford to go any more though isn't it? It's not like the prices are proportionate to other products.
Yesterday I counted for the Leeds game that there were only 132 tickets left for the whole East Stand, and they were all single seats. Some of West Lower is also at capacity and centralWest Upper is filling up well. I'll say 22,500. Leicester is also filling up well, just not as well.
