are we going to get anyone this transfer market on the sun paper this is what Houghton says:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4702418/New-Canaries-must-fit-in.html

its scary he thinks he already has enough competition in the squad sorry mate we defiantly need a striker if holt got injured as he is now we only have morrison and jackson not good enough. i think we have enough in midfield and defence but i would get one more. but strikers we do need asap. by what he is talking he might not get anyone. i can see us getting to the end of january then get a random quick buy like the harry kane one. if he does not get a striker or two we are going to end up slipping because the strikers will end up getting to tired to play.

Well we also have Kane, he looked good in the under 21 game last week, but I like Jackson, I think he'd be good enough given the chance.

I'd like another quality defender like Bassong in case he gets injured. Like when he did before and missed a few games, we really missed his experience and leadership.

The squad is good enough to survive this season from where we are now.Transfer window buys do tend to get inflated because of desperate clubs fighting the drop.just watch 'arry blast a few million away on some old donkey.

What he is saying is that he is confident in the squad he has and I agree with him, he is a very sensible down to earth guy and will make his buy/ sell decisions quietly , I am sure if there is a deal worth doing he will get it done

Agree with Jarrold. If CH thinks he needs another player and that the right one is available, then he will go for it. Let's wait and see about Holty's hamstring before a plunge into desperation spending (like Harry going for Anelka, for example - desperation indeed!). City need 15 points from 21 matches - that doesn't suggest a desperation scenario to me!

Also, if you say your desperate, prices go up. Take Bridcutt, his contracts supposed to be up in 6 months. We've said we don't need him (or anyone) to survive, but if Brighton want any money for him, they have to sell in this window, so in any negotiations, we hold all the cards. If things go well, we get him cheap, if things don't then come the summer, hopefully he'll want to join us then for free.

I thought he was under 24, in which case we'd have to pay a fee! <ok>

Ah, hadn't taken that into consideration, I suppose then we're in another Butterfield situation.

This obsession with ' a striker ' is beginning to drive me nuts!! Most people agree that our days of experimenting with 4-4-2 are over and we will only play one up top. How much competition do you want for this one place in the team? We have Holt, Morison, Jackson and Kane. The original post seemed to get confused over Kane but we do have him, he is an exciting prospect, he is nearly match fit and cost us a lot of money for the loan fee. What do you suggest we do with him if we are not going to play him or consider him good enough competition for Holt? It also states that Morison and Jackson are not good enough. Perhaps CH feels that they are good enough to be on the bench to come on if needed. Transfer fees are inflated in this window and lets assume that we did go ahead and pay an inflated fee. What would you do with him when Holt is fit? Leave Holt out? Put him on the bench with Kane, Morison and Jackson? I cannot see that we have any need for hurried signings at inflated prices as we have adequate cover throughout the squad especially taking into account the players we have out on loan who will probably return. If we sell anybody then I am sure CH will look at replacing him but as far as I can see that is all that is required at this stage. Any major surgery - in and out - can wait until the summer.

We only play one striker, but that doesnt mean he won't replace one in the squad with a better one if they are affordable. Morrison tries hard, Jackson I don't think is rated by ch
I think a change will probably happen in the summer - if I was posed this in september I would have thought jan, but now the midfielders are more than chipping in with goals
Kane will get games I think

An interesting question is who will we sell to bring players in? Lappin, C Martin, Ward and Barnett can all go as far as I'm concerned although we would need another CB, maybe Davis. If Morro goes as the rumours have indicated I think we would definitely have lined up a replacement.

<grr> <doh> I'm sorry, but how long does he need to remain at the club before people learn (it really is fairly simple) what his frickin' name is. Drives me mad.

For what it's worth, I just checked it out, and he's 24 at the start of May, so if the regulations effect under 24's, and I've understood them correctly, we wouldn't need to pay a fee in summer. I'm guessing that means if Brighton do sell in January, his worth will be reduced anyway.

    Agreed <ok>

If CH's current aim is just to survive the season then I do not think that is going to need anything more special than we already have and as transfer fees are inflated in January it would be wise to wait for "significant" signings in the summer.

    good post <ok>

for me, unless we manage to somehow find a striker within our budget who is going to come straight into our first team and put holty on the bench, i don't really see the point. the only other possibility is hughton is keen to flog one of jackson/morison and needs a replacement who is better than both and equal to holt

Sorry Andy, but I have to disagree. Of the 19 goals we've scored this season, Holt only has 4. I believe Kane can easily step up to the mark and Moro on his day can terrorise defences wen playing as the 'lone striker' (agreed he hasn't shown it this season, but if Holt was out for any length of time, I'm sure he could replace him). If we were to get anyone in, I'd like cover for Bassong, as without him, our defence suffers, but as others have said 'if teh right player isn't available at the right price', then we go with what we have and yes, I expect to drop down the league, but I'm equally confident that we won't be involved in a relegation dogfight.

The world at Carrow Road won't end if we don't sign anyone!!! <ok>

    @1950canary - EXCELLENT post!!!!

We have been linked with CMS (and Bridcutt) but last night Brighton drew with a fellow promotion seeking team in Millwall and had a crowd of nigh on 25K. They probably don't need to sell, and an ambitious owner and manager would like to keep their best players as I'm sure they believe they can make the Prem. If they even considered selling CMS, his price would be phenomenal and good player though he is, would not be coming to Carrow Road.
If the right player comes up at the right price, then we would be mad to miss out, as you must always seek to IMPROVE the squad. But the chances of that are remote in the extreme.
