The reason he was rolling round was because Grant would have snapped Wright's legs in 2 if it was not for the shinpad taking the brunt of the force today. As it was it was a nasty challenge which resulted in his shinpad broken. Fully deserved red card in my opinion.
evening mate ,was you at the game today, would be interested on your view on the game and not just the grant thing
I didn't see it Curtis as I'm in France. Never like to see anyone getting hurt. The commentators were extremely annoyed at your team's antics, in particular Kevin Ellison, and at half time even the Morecambe press were not happy with your team's performance and antics. Apparently there was a similar challenge on a Wycombe player in the second half which collected just a yellow from what seemed to be a very incompetent referee. And the incident in the final minute of injury time just beggared belief by all accounts. What was your opinion of the game Curtis? Always good to hear views from opposing fans.
Finally calmed down from the Durso Horror Show this afternoon. Found this forum and the Shrimps fans seem convinced that Grants tackle deserved the red card. http://www.ttpics.co.uk/shrimpsvoices/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16203, they could be right they would of had a better view than from the terrace. There were some really great positives to take from this game. I thought our passing game was much more fluent than of recent games and set aside a couple of mistakes our defence looked organized. We also showed a lot of determination and spirit to play with 10 men for half the game. Its just a shame that the unbelievable refereeing of the game will be my lasting memory. I thought the lack of any footballing talent of their number 11 meant that his cheating and complaining earned his team a point today. Still, we are unbeaten for 5 league games now and the team are showing the confidence and belief that we were lacking back in October. Well done Gaz and thanks for bringing pride back to our club. (and for playing Ozzy and Metallica at half time)
It was a 50/50 challenge, Grant didn't go in two footed and his leading leg was sliding along the ground. Grant made contact firstly with the ball, sliding sideways across the pitch where as the Morcambe player came in from a different angle. This alone showed Grant was going for the ball and not the player. You would have been seriously pissed off at Grant had he shirked the challenge! Yes both players collided. Maybe he did split his shin pad, but neither was injured. Neither went in two footed and neither went over the top of the ball. I have to say that most fans were absolutely amazed at the sending off. Sadly you see the challenge from the wrong side on the football league show so it's inconclusive. To sum up the game, Morcambe were dire until they got the player advantage. Even then they relied on hoofing it in to the box to apply the 'big man' pressure. They re a team of incessant whiners and D'urso just seemed to fall for it. How they ended up with a free kick in the last minute astounds me and how their player didn't get sent off for the foul on Lewis also beggars belief. Fair play to Ainsworth. He has brought that battling attitude to the team and this mixed with moments of brilliance from the likes of Morgan and Grant will see us easily finish above the likes of Morcambe. It may sound like sour grapes, but they were truly clueless before D'urso gave them the advantage
Still a dangerous challenge however the way you look at it. Many Morecambe fans on shrimpsvoices have the same opinion as me that it was a dangerous challenge from whatever angle you saw it. To split a players shin pad the challenge must have been with full force. How many players even in the premiership do you see with broken shin pads after reckless challenges? As for whiners, there were plenty of your fans by the dugout giving grief to our lot and whoever was in earshot. At the end of the day you will have a baised assessment of events because you lost 2 points however you judge on one visit to your stadium & not on a full season. I am sure if it was a sending off of one of our players you would not be quick to complain about events.
Firstly, both players went in with the same intensity. Grant played the ball first and they both collided at full pelt. Whether a shin pad snapped or not is totally irrelevant. Do you know that the shin made contact with Grants foot?? Total dramatisation of a 50/50 challenge and you are hanging on to the fact that a shin pad split. What if Grant had broken his leg..... are we to then assume that it was your players fault etc? No, the fact is it was a coming together, not two footed, not over the ball and just a cruncher frOm both sides. Both players went down under the challenge and both got back up relatively unscathed. Regards to grief from fans, it comes with the territory mate. Opposing teams sing and chant all sort of crap about us every game. Does it bother me...not a jot. Was there any trouble....of course not! My point about whiners was the likes of Ellison who is basically an average league 2 player that tries to improve his performance by winding others up or badgering the ref with incessant whinging. You fail to make comment on your players nasty two footed lung in to Stuart Lewis, which he was only yellow carded for. Maybe if he had broken his shin pad it would have been a deserved red???
from a quick lesson off a refereeing friend of mind a general rule is; careless - foul reckless - yellow card excessive force - red card was joels reckless? yes, but he was entitled to go for that ball. did he use excessive force? honestly i dont think so
That is part & parcel of football. We have had shocking decisions go against us & Wycombe or whoever will be no different throughout the season. As for Ellison winding up players it seems it works when you come on here slating him. Maybe if he did not have a reputation by a few they would get off his back. Average footballer or not in your eyes, he has done ok for us last year scoring 17 goals even when missing matches through injury. I would expect him to be an average league 2 footballer like Ainsworth when his best days are behind him at 33 now. Every player has a nightmare of a game throughout the season & Kevin Ellison is no different to have an off day & get away with it. Many Morecambe fans said it was a red card as well, look on Shrimpsvoices under the Wycombe thread. Even on sky sports it showed it & looked a straight red. The ref even saw it as a dangerous challenge, so not all of us can be wrong. With a different ref it may have been a different outcome. Your no different to us we have had decisions go against this season, it is part & parcel of football.
Curtis, you are spot on about decisions going against teams. Most Wycombe fans were incensed by the D'urso and his inconsistency of decisions rather than the sending off as an isolated incident. Again I mention your players diabolical tackle on Lewis which generated just a yellow! Your comment on Ainsworth is not a great comparison. At 33 he was still a championship player. Even now at 38 he still shows class at his level, yet the old legs won't carry him for a full game anymore. It's a game of opinions I know, however every time I have seen D'urso I have been totally unimpressed. You would hope for more from an ex prem ref.
That is why he is an Ex Premiership Ref. This Premiership ref is no more. This is an ex Premiership ref.
We have had a number of decisions go against us this season & it was about time the luck changed. Most refs are incompetent depending who you get on the day, it is part & parcel of the game now a days. Ellison has been outstanding for us & last season scored some terrific goals against higher opposition. Only because you see him once it does not give you the full picture that on his day he can range from shocking to outstanding. Most players have a bad day at the office but does not always show their true potential throughout the season. You only have to see how many teams from top to bottom have been inconsistant this season by the league table.
i agree about morgan for 60 minutes.... the last 30 or so he just didnt look bothered which wound me up no end... ratings probably a bit harsh, id still like to sign him up!!
You talk some utter tosh. I understand that some of you southerners have a chip on your shoulder with us but to state we moan throughout is ridiculous. Many of your fans were stuck near the touchline giving it to our management team or whoever was in touching distance, seems that you have a short memory. Many of you are decent fans who have had many of drink with in the past but it seems that one or two have a chip on their shoulder.
