Why does Sport not matter when someone has been racially abused?

I'm sick of the fact that Sport and Sports news is put on hold, all because a few people say something racist.

One person makes a monkey noise in a crowded area, and all of a sudden everything must stop so we can hear about this devastating occurrence.

**** news about Messi's record breaking goal tally, **** the sports personality of the year award, just **** everything! None of that **** matters because a black player was insulted.

Why can't Racism be dealt with behind the scenes? Why can't someone just make a complaint, then have the matter investigated and the guilty person removed discreetly, so we can all just carry on enjoying our sport, rather than flicking on to channel 405, hoping to catch up on some sport, but just seeing more racial abuse reports?

Why does it have to be on the front pages of every news paper, why does Sky Sports News have to have a yellow band "breaking news" section dedicated to the fact that someone has been abused, implying that we should just drop everything, all gather around our television screens and start crying?

I'm sick of this ****. Racism is an issue, I've never denied this, but I think the way we're handling it is stupid. Flicking back through hours of video footage, trying to spot someone in a football crowd making gorilla noises, and then spitting coffee on our computer screens in disbelief, and having it published above everything else. All it;s doing is giving these idiots attention, which will not cure racism, it will only make people more sensitive to it, and allow racist people's actions affect our lives even more.

I haven't posted on here since 1978 but Tash, i completely agree with the above. Although the subject matter is something i feel strongly about, the way it is being handled is ridiculous, possibly even making the issue worse?

    Tash, I agree here.
I think the issue is a simple one..... football related stories sell papers as the target audience is predominantly male.
You will note that the red tops (working class papers) go overboard more... this is because their TA is more closely aligned with the average football fan.

Thinking the same as Tash might not be such a good thing. Have you been to the docs for a check up recently?

Could do with a bit of your heat over here at the moment, it's rather chilly.

We'll have to have a meet up when you get back.

All the best for Christmas and the New Year, just in case you don't post again before then.

Where you sprang from buddy? Nice to see you back on board. I hope you still retain those forthright views on religion we so readily agreed on <laugh>

Racism thing is a tough one. Do you give it loads of exposure to highlight the importance but detract from the sport, or deal with quietly, risk being accused of trying to sweep it but make sure you don't detract from the sport? Fear makes them take the latter route.

I am bore of hearing about it I know that much!

Thats a good point, i suppose they need to be seen to be handling it the right way or there would be hell on!

    Blame the press/media.
Because of Leveson/ Hillsborough report, they need an issue to 'promote'.
Media whores like Rio don't help - and then there's moronic fans chanting vile crap, throwing stuff, invading pitches etc.
I don't want to return to the dark days where this was the norm and we decent folk were treated like scum.

Basically, people in general are very stupid.

They have to be told how to behave by their televisions - racist chanting/monkey impressions etc will result in a lifetime ban from your football ground.

    Don't do it!!!

No, really. Don't do it. It's not a fad or the latest crusade, it's real.

Of course, if a group of muslims want to shout abuse at soldiers as they're returning from active duty, that's perfectly acceptable. <ok>
