The only negative about Meyler was that god awful goal celebration. Both his goal celebrations have been copied of FIFA. Probley a bit of banter between the players
Bruce said last night, that unlike Meyler, there's been no suggestion from Sunderland that they're considering recalling Elmo.
I put 2 and 2 together after seeing him waving what looked like a goodbye wave with Meyler at the end, added with something I read about Meyler being recalled due to all their right-backs being injured, meaning Craig Gardner was having to cover that position... with Elmohamady being a right-back (of a sort). I seriously hope not though, Elmo has been a big player for us. Too important to our team.
We should make signing Elmo in January one of our main priorities. I know there's some gentleman's agreement for the Summer in place, but he's still not our player and WE NEED HIM.
You're right that he scores goals and it's no surprise when he's the only one who makes the runs from midfield. He obviously has a touch of class about him but that's not my problem, it's all the balls he gives up on and the way he tries to make other players look silly if they play him a pass that isn't quite perfect, he just stops still and exaggerates how bad it is because he's more bothered about people watching him than winning the game. Every game I find myself saying "Get on with it Meyler!" two or three times.
I don't think you'll find many people who agree with that. Certainly not amongst those who sit near me. Meyler is still rusty, mainly visible in some of his passing. But how anyone can accuse him of giving up on balls is beyond me. I haven't seen the Opta stats for yesterday but I reckon he ran Quinny close in terms of yards covered. In the 90th minute a long ball was cleared from just inside our half and it was rolling out for a goal kick right in front of me in the South Stand. Meyler ran flat out from the centre circle and retrieved the ball before passing it back for Elmo to cross. The guy is not what you claim.
Agree with ISTPL he doesnt always bust a gut. But he did have a purple last ten minutes. Strovolos..when he stopped playing because he got a touch on the head it must have been right in front of you in the south stand.
Just for the record, he didn't get a "touch on the head" , he got a finger in the eye and for a brief second or two he couldn't see properly. Bit difficult playing football when you cannot see.
I'd have McKenna in over Meyler until he gets more game time - still wants too much time, isn't up to pace, goes down too easily and shocking passes to either noone or the opposition. Still 2 goals is a good return, imagine what he could do for us when he is at full potential.
Tunnicliffe isn't getting a look in at Man Utd and his little incident where he pranged his Range Rover whilst pissed up will have wound Fergie up no end. Wouldn't be surprised to see him loaned out in January. Who knows?
I seem to recall several players making passes that where not picked up by players the first time and quite a few words where exchanged.
We will certainly bring a CM in on loan in January but I thin Meyler will be first choice and will depend on whether Sunderland bring anyone in
Meyler's done OK for us. But he's not PL quality from what I've seen (even taking into account his long lay-off) I can only imagine he'll go back to Sunderland's bench and be only used in an emergency.
Meyler still off the pace - losing him wouldn't be the end of the world although he is vocal in the Ash mould and we've been sadly lacking in that department. Losing Elmo would on the other hand be catastrophic..
I think we need to know for sure if Elmo's loan is 'recall' proof. We might be worrying for nothing....
If a loan fee had been paid, to prevent a recall, then I'm sure Bruce would have said so when Burnsy asked him about it after the game. I think we're just banking on the fact that they don't want him back.
