Didn't last long but boy did he divide the fans. In a way he was slightly unlucky but it's results on the pitch that count and sadly for Fergie we didn't get enough of them hence relegation.
Looks like he fell out with several players straight away, the likes of Chaplow consigned to train with the youth team.
Gained a 1-0 win at Peterborough which would have pleased him however we started to ship goals at an alarming rate.
Brought in some good loan signings (well two of them) Matty James and Danny Welbeck and to be honest the football was more entertaining than under Al.
Gained safety after a nervy 3-2 win over Scunthorpe with a late Treacy winner after a Ledge blunder had let Scunny into the game.
Things changed for Fergie and PNE on the last Saturday in May when a certain club gained promotion.
Optimism was low to say the least at the start of the new season a first day defeat by Doncaster followed by a drubbing at Swansea(believe me it was a drubbing I was there)
Finally got off the mark with a win against Pompey and then didn't win for a month in which time we had thrown a 3-1 away against the Clarets won at Coventry before one unbelievable night at Leeds encapsulated Fergie's tenure. Hapless defending led us to be 4-1behind before the Beast and possibly Fergie's legacy to the club Hume inspired a remarkable turn around to win 6-4.
Were things on the up well er No beat Palace 4-3 after being 4-1 up unlucky not to beat Wigan in the cup, however it would be a long time until we would win again.
Two soulless defeats against Barnsley and Hull should have led to his sacking but he managed to bring in a few loan players but things didn't change.
A single goal victory over Ipswich was his last and following a defeat against Middlesbrough win it was patently obvious that Plan A wasn't working trouble was he'd no Plan B.

Following the sacking the loan players disappeared faster than the Lib/Dems plans for AV and David Unsworth was left to pick up the pieces a easy win for Derby followed by an unlucky defeat at Palace then it was the master of the Tan

yeah that maybe so but IMO it was Ferguson that took us there. I'm quite sure that PB can take us forward, we'll see but I cant see anybody better for the job as it stands.

    Maclad..<ok>

Terrific series of articles and just what a site such as this needs, could I suggest that you copy and save them for when this site is joined by more Northenders then re post.

    Baby Fergie :emoticon-0120-doh:

Was not my choice when appointed and unfortunately my worst fears came about ..:steam:.

It's all opinion of course but mine is that his appointment is the main reason PNE will be starting the new season in Div 1 and not the championship. Like others I called for his sacking well before it happened as it was obvious the man had no tactical nous and his man management skills were zero.
He was also inexperienced at Championship level and and certainly not equipped to deal with everything that was going on at Deepdale, he was a bit unlucky in having the goal posts moved soon after he took on the job but he knew what he was taking on when he came.
The decision to play young players who were not ready and rely on loan players was a recipe for disaster and proved very costly
I always had the impression that he was relying heavily on SAF to bail him out, but even then he never got the best out of his father's loans from United. I also ask the question, who was it who suggested these particular United loan players SAF or DF ?????.

He might have learned from his tenure at PNE and move on to the benifit of another club, such as Peterborough, but he messed up big time at PNE and was a very bad appointment by TH and smacked of the old pals act for SAF.

What happened following his dismissal at PNE was a total disgrace when SAF and Pullis withdrew their loan players. A total disregard for the loan system and was most certainly not within the spirit of the game.

Had DF gone earlier I am convinced that Brown and Horton would have kept PNE in the championship, they had a thankless and difficult job sorting the mess out that DF had left the club in and didn't have sufficient time.

As I have said it's only opinion and the above is mine.

There is a strong rumour knocking around that he would have been saked in mid November but Daddy stuck his oar in, hence the loan players

It's more than a rumour themclad.
In answer to plumbers question of who selected the loans it certainly wasn't Junior.
The one loan that was successful was young James and when he was recalled he could'nt say anything but his parents were furious.
