That Shrewsbury match, alot of the so called fans didn't even watch the game. They started to queue for their Liverpool tickets which were been sold after the game.
He scored 24 in 146 games for us, which is a better strike rate than most of our strikers are currently managing. He was a miserable twat though.
He probably was but I was more bothered about how well he played. He couldn't tackle but had a great shot and scored some great goals. Championship caught him out because he wasn't physical enough.
I had a similar bad experience with Sunderland "fans" after we beat them 3 - 0 on the opening day of the 1976 /77 season. There were loads of them down North Road and me and some mates had to run a bit of a gauntlet to get away. We were about 15 at the time and like you I've never really liked Sunderland since
Thats more than pedantic unless when you talk about citys next/last game you also include the reserves I took a small clump and grew it in a plant pot on the kitchen windowsill giving a little trim every now and again, I was so proud of it then a couple of years after picking it I gave it a trim and it just fell apart - i was gutted like a proper geek
**** me, the day after, at that Sunday sneak preview day at the KC, really was a WOW moment, the like of which has not been experienced at BP since the mid 70s.
That where I started to watch as a kid, 1958 was my first season and always behind the goal in the North stand, I only changed to the south stand when the new one was built.
In a home game vs Derby. I was sat right behind him and he literally jumped up and punched the air as the ball went in before turning around with a huge smile on his face.
Not even remotely an obsession, I just have my say when people have selective memory about him or perhaps dont know what he was really like. He was found out by subsequent clubs.
Yes it was, and the KC is a great home. But, early memories will always mean that Boothferry means more to me.
Competative and reserves It only anoys me when it ruins my little known fact about the only player to play full 90 mins of both the last game at Boothferry Park and KC
Have to share your views on that last game with the reserves, really was horrific showed how far it had gone. However i have to admit been so young i do feel i missed out seeing Boothferry Park in all its glory rather than from Mark Hately onwards which is what i saw. Yet i think we all have to think how lucky we now are with the KC.
