In all seriousness though, for a club of their size, an average of 60-70 away fans showing up is pretty shocking. To think people moan about our away numbers.
It is funny, isn't it. 1 away fan = legend 500 away fans = pathetic turnout. I know it's different cultures but still... I wonder what sort of away crowds the Sardinian and Sicilian clubs have.
Wow, even Wigan take more. When I used to follow Fisher Athletic there were about 10 of us at away games but that was the Blue Square South and the home attendance would be about 90. For a biggish club like Udinese to have one away fan is atrocious.
Even when we played Braga in a friendly they brought more, maybe a couple of dozen if I remember right.
I seem to remember a midweek game against I think Hartlepool or something a season or two back where me and my dad managed to count about 96 fans in the Jimmy Seed stand, that was impressive
They were day-release cleaners from Dartford hospital, FHB. I remember an away match at Burnley in the Coca Cola Cup (or was it the Rumbelows?) when we won 4-1. There was only about twenty of us, but someone brought along a massive flag to cover all the empty seats. Can anyone else remember that one?
Indeed there were a decent handful there for that game. Same as when we played Athletic Bilbao, though if I remember correctly the fans weren't separated for that game. The FC Den Bosch support last pre-season was immense.
Treasured memory for you I bet Not many at Halifax either, probably less than 80. I was at a qualifier for the Europa League at Dundalk a few years back. Against Grevenmacher of Luxembourg. Don't remember if they had any fans. If they did, it would have been less than 5. I think it was about 30-40 away fans at the away game, but I wasn't one of them.
I remember that one. Think it was Scunthorpe. I remember counting the fans and it was well less than 100
There was a Hartlepool match that was supposed to be on a Saturday but then was snowed or iced out and was re-fixed for a Tuesday evening. I think our first season in League 1. If that was the match, then I think 96 is a decent turnout. Anyone from the northeast who had planned to travel would have lost the money paid on the train and hotels.
I think that was the Bury match, Jimbo. It was a freezing Tuesday night and Stephens banged in that screamer to salvage a draw. CP's first defeat as our manager was away to Hartlepool, I believe. That was a blinkin' cold night with very few Addicks about.
Loved that goal! My second favourite goal of last season (after Yann's impossibility against Hartlepool). Haynes reaction to their goalkeeper was the icing on the cake
Ironic then that The Holmsdale Fanatics and our very own Red Division style themselves as "ultras". The passion of the Italian game eh?
