Agreed with Robespierre, the only downside is Sundays. As a fan from a distance, televised European games on Thursday nights sounds great. Even the Sunday games have the advantage of giving us a better place in MOTD2's running order than we would have got on Saturday's MOTD. The biggest drawback is the potential to underachieve in the league during those post-European games, but we coped all right with that last time, and much of the squad will have last seasons experience to draw on this time. Incidentally, further to my comments above about the coefficient. Our success last time will come into play if we get through to the group stages, and will help us to get a better seeding. My guess would be we could expect to be in at least the second group of seeds, if not the first. Last time we were in the third group, so it should help to give us more chance of progressing to the later stages. But I'm getting ahead of myself - let's see if we qualify at all first.
Have to agree with the Captain about MOTD2. I hate it how we always seem to end up at the arse-end of Saturday MOTD - even if we have won 3 - 0 and every other match is a nil - nil draw. The worst we can be on MOTD2 is second, really. Having said that, I would never get to see a home game if the majority were played on Sundays which would be a big downside.
If we manage to put together a decent europa run, then almost certainly will we drop down the League, as happened (going from 7th to 12th) and falling from around 9th in the League, before the knockout stages. but is this really a big deal? We are too good to be relegated (dangerous statement), but its not like we are contesting for Champions League? Slightly less money, but surely will be made up by extra revenue/TV, e.t.c. I can't wait, fingers crossed we get the spot
