Read it. It starts off making a claim that the Irish could not afford salt to preserve their fish. I'm no expert but I know that the Romans put seawater in dishes and let it evaporate to make salt. Seems fairly straightforward. The difficulty in catching the fish after we English took all your wood I can sympathise with. The "pattern" from the 1840s till this day is that Ireland cannot sustain a large population, finite resources, so emigration will always be a factor.
