    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-wire/demba-ba-turns-down-70000-a-week/?

There are reports this morning that Demba Ba has turned down an increased offer of £70,000 a week.

If true, it would amount to a big departure from Mike Ashley as previous reporting suggested he wouldn’t go beyond £50,000 a week, an increase of £10,000 on Ba’s current £40,000.

Again ‘if’ the story in the Express stacks up, then it would be very disappointing if Ba wasn’t prepared to meet the club somewhere in the middle.

The story further claims that United have a wage ceiling of £60,000 a week, which would be at odds with previous suggestions of what Fabricio Coloccini is on.

Looking at Newcastle’s potential transfer activity in the January window, it is possible we could see a repeat of the Cheick Tiote contract situation.

If you remember, when Tiote was given his improved contract it was presented as a ‘new signing’ and maybe we could see that happen with Demba Ba.

A case of Mike Ashley presenting a new contract for Ba as equalling a ‘new signing’, in his eyes showing a commitment of cash to the fans and maybe by labelling it as new signing material, justifying the extra cash outlay to himself as well.

    The Express article....

NEWCASTLE striker Demba Ba has rejected a new offer of £70,000 a week, which would have made him the club’s highest-paid player.
Sunday Express Sport revealed last week that the Senegalese forward, who struck two goals in the 3-0 win over Wigan last Monday, was asking for £90,000 a week.

Owner Mike Ashley, who has put the Geordies on a sound financial footing, was prepared to budge on his wage ceiling of £60,000, offering the player a further £10,000 a week.

But Ba’s advisors turned that down, alerting clubs like Liverpool to the fact that he has a £7million escape clause.

Newcastle, worried that the January transfer window will make them vulnerable to approaches for Ba, are seeking a replacement.

It’s understood the player favours a move to London, with Arsenal and QPR both monitoring the situation.

Liverpool could have more luck with former midfield star Xabi Alonso, who is believed to be hankering over a return to Anfield.
Ba’s advisors turned that down, alerting clubs like Liverpool to the fact that he has a £7million escape clause

Alonso is unlikely to sign a new contract at Real Madrid, and believes his time on Merseyside was the most enjoyable of his career.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is looking at the possibility of Alonso coming to Anfield next month.

If true I think he'll find himself out the door because that offer would be more than fair. Pardew seems convinced he is happy to stay and all these articles in the press wreak badly of agents trying to eek a bit more money out of the club to line their own pockets. While he can't control it all, he has to realise its a distraction we could do without at present.

Im glad he rejected this, He has a big role to play but he can be replaced! I know its just paper talk but with every passing article about this the more I want him to go! We are Newcastle United not Newcastle Ba :) I wonder if he would accept that if we put it in the contract "Clubs name gets edited to suit you whilst your here"

We'll miss his goals but he can't hold the club to ransom.

I personally don't believe it, but if it's true, then jesus christ...

I personally wouldn't have offered any player in our side over 60k. We need to keep a good atmosphere at the club, and if Demba got his 70k a week, everyone would start crying and wanting more.

Ben Arfa is the only player I'd risk paying that sort of money for.

Good on Demba if its false. Anyway, about the board and their sick nonsense about "like a new signing". I can't stand that stuff.
So according to them, Raylor coming back is going to be like a new signing, Ranger will be like a new signing as well etc etc. They better not be spouting that ****

truly hope so but the fact that he hasn't signed or at least amended his contract by now suggests a lot of the paper chatter may be true.

Wouldn't be the first time they've printed utter garbage in their effort to fill a few columns and sell a few more papers.

I am afraid that these rumour's might in fact be true. He is at present the top scorer in the premier league and last season he was for a while until his dip in form, When you compare his wages to players around the premier league scoring similar levels of goals he is under paid and he and his agent know that.

Now add to the fact that he is at that age for his FINAL big contract and add the fact that it looks unlikely at present that we will win any trophies it takes no time to conclude that he is wanting more money and the chance to win silverware.

There is no loyalty and he owes us nothing.

It may be naive on my part I'd sell him and replace him with an attacking wide player, let Cisse have the central role up top. He's shown signs that he's regaining his sharpness and it's simply just a matter of time before he starts to find the back of the net on a regular basis once again.

We'd also need a secondary striker if we let Ba go (preferably 21/22 but with some proven pedigree).

Have to say I'd stick with what is proven in Ba. Goalscorers can be difficult to find and he has shown himself to be top class in this regard. I'd like the wide player though. I'd just make it a straight fight between him and Cisse.

However he has to stay on our terms, we can't start relaxing the rules on wage structure to suit one player, we've had it all before. We'll have to see what transpires. At present manager and player are dismissing the rumours but not going as far as saying a contract will be signed. We'll just have to see how things progress but I'd only act if it becomes a distraction or he refuses to sign a contract and starts to run it down a la Simpson.

I find it absolutely amazing how gullible so many people are.

The article has no quotes, not even from a "club insider". So why do so many people start slagging Demba off and wanting rid of our top scorer. The tweet from Demba appears to suggest that there is no truth in the story.

It's not as if the press haven't been making up stories for years just to sell newspapers. So why do so many people think there is any truth in the story.

Demba has a contract for. I think, another season and a half. He doesn't have to sign anything if he doesn't want too. It doesn't make him any less "loyal" or committed. Also there is nothing wrong with him seeking more money than he is said to be on, in his shoes everyone else would.

So why, for those who have said so on this thread, do you want rid of Demba based on the Express article with no quotes or anything to support the alleged claim being made by it?

People are discussing the article based on the fact it might be true. It is is much true as it is untrue surely?

You can't go around saying it's wrong to discuss things that might not be true. If you could only discuss pure facts then this board would be a very boring place.
