Play for the team next time and not individual glory... It was like a team of 10 + Ramirez at the end. Twice he tried to score instead of running to the corner. Very disappointed in that when every other player was trying to kill the game in the corner or run the clock down by passing it around. You might think I'm being harsh but surely we can never forget how many late goals we conceded the season we went down in 04-05 when players went for individual glory instead of being a team player on several occasions..
Honestly I don't know why anyone that saw us get relegated on 04-05 and watched all our games until the final whistle that season would disagree. But you are all entitled to your own opinions though if you disagree. I prefer it if everyone's playing for the team in all situations. We only needed to keep the ball and time waste in the corner. It wasn't necessary to give Reading a sniff at all by risking losing the ball cheaply when 1 goal was enough. It's my opinion.
Yeah. Sad really. I hold no favouritism to any of our players. I want them all to do well and play as a team. I gave Ramirez man of the match with 9.5/10 against Newcastle in the match ratings thread for example.
I thought Gaston got stuck in on several occasions when he had to, and helped Shaw out a few times as well. Bit harsh.
Thought we closed the game out excellently again, Reading did not get a sniff once Guly came on apart from two well defended free kicks.
Against Middlesborough same season we were 2-0 up and conceded in the 89th. Still didn't run down the clock and ended up conceding in stoppage time ended 2-2. Can't find a video. Just two examples. If we'd time wasted cleverly every game when leading that season at the very end we'd have been easily safe.
I thought Gaston put a real shift in today and not in his natural position! Hopefully Lala will be back for Sunderland and Gaston can return to his natural position just behind Sir Rickie
I totally disagree with this. He worked hard and kept the ball. Several times he went to the corner or enabled others to go there. However, if you always head straight to the corner you become predictable. I have also seen us concede trying to do this...
That Everton game is still raw in the mind after 7 years. Yep we held on today, but it could have been different. But it wasn't! and the fact we remember a game from nearly 8 years ago shows it is rare. No7
I shall continue to blame Crouch as Ramirez would have been a child at the time. Wasn't expecting to play and did well when he came on.
What could have happened or might happen in the future is important. We don't want to ever risk blowing a 1 goal lead (or at least reduce the chance of conceding to the possible minimum). Gazzaniga got stick even when we won when he made errors and rightly so.
Being more then harsh as the bloke has only just got back from Uruguay because of a family death. Yet the day after he gets back he chooses to play for us, showing commitment but still some aren't happy.
That is a good point. Maybe he was trying to get a goal for the family and in future will go to the corner in a similar situation. Time will tell. It was very good of him to come back to play.
