Massadio Haïdara - top young French defender

And there is news in France that Newcastle are interested in 19 year-old Nancy full-back Massadio Haïdara, who has already played a couple of times for the France U21 side, and plays for Nancy in France’s top league.

Massadio was born in Trappes, France back in 1992, and only turned 19 last Sunday, and he is one of the best young French players, and an exciting player to watch.

He is of Senegal descent, and plays as a left back and made his professional debut on 11th December 2010, in a league match against Sochaux, having only just turned 17.

Newcastle may need to bring in another full back in January, in case Danny Simpson leaves the club, and it can be a left back or right back, since Davide Santon can play on either side.

This lad would look like an excellent acquisition, and in January of last year he signed his first professional contract and agreed to a three-year deal with Nancy, and we have to assume that Chief Scout Graham Carr has been watching the lad.

Massadio has played 40 times for Nancy with one goal – does anybody know about this player?

 

Newcastle have joined Tottenham in the hunt for exciting Nancy full-back Massadio Haïdara, according to reports in France.

The 19-year-old full-back has shot to attention of a number of European clubs after finally establishing himself as a regular in the Nancy lineup, making 19 appearances already this term.

A fast, technical and rugged left-back who can also play on the wing, Haïdara was watched by Aston Villa and Tottenham scouts last month, with the latter rumoured to have lodged a £2million bid.

That has since been denied by Nancy, but it has alerted Newcastle to the player’s availability, and the Magpies are now weighing up an offer in the January transfer window.

Alan Pardew is desperate to add further cover down the left flank, and Haïdara would fit the bill perfectly, given that he wouldn’t command a first-team role straight away, and could develop in a fringe role for the next couple of seasons.

Nancy are believed to want around £5million for Haïdara, but are believed to be willing to accept a smaller amount if the France Under-21 star can see out the season there on loan.

 

What would be the chances of us buying him and seeing him get injured while playing on loan for Nancy?
