I just can't understand the reasoning whilst NI is still part of the UK.

I understand the reasoning behind some schools putting on different plays and not just the Nativity in these multi cultural times.
Where as some people are going right over the top about destroying the nativity.

 

With respect Mackem, that's a very simplistic view of things. I don't mean this in a bad way but its typical of an Englishman's stance on such things.

I suggest you read up on the Good Friday Agreement and the unique nature of Northern Ireland as disputed territory with two communities of diametrically opposed ideas of Nationhood. If equality is to reign then all the banners and symbols of one side should not be shoved down the throat of the other.

Besides, its not up to you or me thanks be to God. The power for such decisions lie directly with the people of that shared province. So I suggest we all just let them get on with it.

My point still stands, whilst NI is still part of the UK, removing the flag looks to an outsider like waving a red rag at a bull.

 

Not going to argue the political points as I wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
What I will say is that NI at this time is still part of the UK.
Until that changes surely the flag should have remained.

Look at it objectively though Mackem. In England, Scotland and Wales, the Union flag doesn't fly over such buildings every day of the year. So why N Irl? And if the Scottish Parliament decides to put the Saltire up over Edinburgh castle as they've discussed recently, would you object to that too? I'm sorry but that guy is a real low-life. Looking at some of the stuff he's posted on here about my fellow Countrymen makes me sick. He's just a thug who was given a uniform and a gun and sent off into another person's land and he and his mates ended up murdering innocent people. I have a Scottish Uncle who was a Battalion Commander in NI and was nearly killed in the Warrenpoint Ambush and while I would have supported the other side to his, I've always respected him because he always talked with respect about the people of NI and recognised why there was an armed conflict in the first place.
