Should be the best atmosphere in a long time on Saturday, if we win, that's three on the trot, not sure when we last achieved that.

Spanish talks more sense than most on here. He was rightly against MM joining as was I but I know he'll be as pleased as I am with what's gone on since.

Not sure how serious to take that statement, given your past history of supplying the budgies with fantastic quotes.

I was dubious about the appointment of MM particularly in the face of so much 'love' for him that seemed to sway me against. I make no attempt to cover up that I would have gone all out for Holloway but I appreciate MM is a talented manager who has achieved a lot in his career and am glad to see him having an early impact at Portman Road.

I think what Hampy means (I'm sure he will clarify for himself) is that Spanish formed his opinion and has stuck by it. The same cannot be said for a lot of posters on these boards as I remember a lot of people hailing Jewell when he first came and got us on a decent run. I was dubious about Jewell but backed him to the hilt and I just hope I don't have to be accused of being a 'McCarthy lover' in the way is was with Jewell if it all goes south in a few months time...

It could have gone either way for me. If we were in a better position I would've liked Holloway to come in but because of the state of the club I'm glad it turned out to be Mick. I think you'll find KOPR that a lot of people will always back a new manager until they can see he is not up to the job. I for one backed Jewell for a while as I hate to see any manager fail at ITFC but it became clear that things were just not working. I don't think you should have a go at 'a lot of posters' because they changed their minds over the course of PJ'S tenure. Basically you're saying that when a manager is appointed you must make a decision on whether you like him or not and stick by that until the end of his time here, which sounds a bit ******ed when said like that, no?

Considering Spanish last post, dated on Saturday read

'I am more than happy to be proven wrong, still cant stand the guy though, sometimes there are people you just cant take to and for me MM is one of them people!!
Can't knock the footballing side of things though, onwards and upwards but please don't let amyone start talking about making the play offs!!'

I cant see why there is a need for these posts.

I must of missed that one i take it all back and apologise whole heartedly.......Although i can't see what Big Mac has done to be so unliked by some he was not my first choice but i think he was the right choice and i will give him the same backing that i gave PJ and Keane giving him plenty of time to make a go of it.

Mick McCarthy is clearly the best managerial appointment we have had since Joe Royle who in my opinion did a fantastic job given the dire state the club was in when he came here. The job this time round was not for a novice and in Mick we have absolutely made the right choice. He will rebuild this club from top to bottom given time and to be fair no one can argue with his record so far at Town! 13 points from 7 games is play-off form and NO I'm not suggesting that we will get there. A comfortable Mid table finish this season will be a great achievement and will seem a miracle given the state we were in when Mick first arrived.

I have to say I don't often defend Spanish as often he is indefensible but as tractorbhoy said he swallowed some pride and seems pretty objective tbh, so no need for the baiting!!!

I like what McCarthy has done so far, infact it's been beyond what we could've wished for but I wasn't overly enthused about his appointment but that was more my heart thinking over my head. I did want us to take a risk and MM is about as safe as they come. Tbh i've never been overly enthralled about any manager we've appointed but all with the exception of Keane I've warmed to and supported and I see it being no different with MM, as he is a good manager no question, just not really what I see as an Ipswich manager!!

What annoys me about this board is not people changing their mind about a manager or voicing their opinion (even if I disagree with it) but people who if they like a manager are unable to engage in a critical disscussion which may involve somethings that aren't positive and also visa versa!!

I think that's a bit harsh on Magilton who (I thought) did a great job in his 1st season as manager. It was only when he was given money to spend that he made a bit of a hash of things (& by that I mean going out & telling the media exactly what players he was after causing those players clubs to double the asking price) but I thought he got us playing pretty decent football & he was let go because ME wanted a "big name" manager

OK number one: We all want Town to do well.

    2) Neither Spanish nor I were thrilled with the appointment and neither of us particularly had time for MM but what he has achieved so far is incredible.

    3) We seem to be OK but we are still only 5 points above the relegation zone so before we start proclaiming him the messiah, as MM keeps telling us let's see where we are come May.

    4) MM may well be a great Championship manager but can he do anything in the top flight? He may well help us on our journey there but will he be the next Sir Bobby or Sir Alf? I very much doubt it.

    5) In our history we've had an awful lot of lousy managers and coaches (Duncan, McGiven, Keane, Jewell) and an equal measure of exceptional ones. I'm fairly certain that in the long run McCarthy will not fall into neither camp but it is refreshing to have a competent manager for the first time since 2009.

It doesn't really matter if he can't do anything in the top flight, does it?<ok>
