I'm not questioning either the lads commitment, ability or worth to us here but I am going to raise the question about where he plays. His inclusion as the second striker behind Fletcher isn't working at all. Wickham showed that although a very blunt instrument, he is a natural targetman and should get a run of games now. Only an utter imbecile would advocate dropping Fletcher from the team, which begs the question just where do we play Sessegnon? He is a poor second striker and that's a fact born out of his goals to games ratio. Can he play centrally alongside a midfielder enforcer? Maybe. Can he play wide? Yes and is more effective cutting in and running at defences and is his ONLY position imo. So, how would if be used for me? Johnson, Gardener, Vaugham Sessegnon, Wickham, Fletcher Whatever happens, we have to stop using him as a striker, as it is costing us dearly now and has already cost Bruce his job and is threatening NoN's now for sure. He is a good player but only on the wing for me.
For our line up against Chelsea should be ----------------------Mig--------------------- Bardo-----Cuellar------Killa----------Rose Sess-----Gardner-------Vaughan-------AJ -------------------Whickham------------- ---------------------Fletch------------------ Sess needs to play on the right for me & Whickham showed on sunday he can win a ball in the air & hold it up well. He could bring sess, Aj & Fletch into play. I just hope we play like we did in the second half against Norwich & show some fight.
I saw the title and had to log on, how can we say Sess is the problem,Sess plays where he is told to play so the problem is the man who picks him and plays him. If i was Bruce last time then its O'Neills now, simple. Off again now, enjoy your day
Agreed mate. I think fletch has done tremendously well with finishing but his link play has not been quite as good. Mainly due to the distance between him and the midfield when receiving the ball. I thought Connor did that fantastically well yesterday and midfielders could receive the lay off or run in behind for the flick on. I think with fletch close to him that could be very effective
Team seems okay but, who is the better winner of the ball and the fastest between Fletcher and Whickham as you play your fastest running onto the knock downs/passes from your winner of the ball? That could mean dropping Fletcher in the hole and using Whickham as the battering ram.
I agree with most of the replies on this thread so it could well be that we are beginning to arrive at a common census at last. Hopefully MON can see what we are all beginning to see. Sessegnon really cannot continue in his current role, he has to be put out wide left to replace McClean with AJ returning to the right. I really don't think a player of Sessegnons ability would have a big problem playing wide left... Sessegnon often drifts wide anyhow so.... I hope MON gives this a try. Wickham Fletcher Sessegnon Gardner Vaughan Johnson Meyler back in from his loan too.
He's our best player. Usually when he looks shot its because everybody around him is shot and aren't making the most of his class. I'd be interested to see how he does playing off Connor... Only if fletch is injured, certainly wouldnt drop him mind. In short I'd put sess at centre back or in goal just to have him in the team.
Not sure talc as Wickham is quick but I think Fletcher reads the game very well and it'd be a case of who's more likely to get on the end of a knock down? I think Fletcher but only an opinion. Just hope to god that they both start next week. Wickham has scored at every level he's played recently (obv not including yesterday) so get him a run in the team. Will also out pressure on fletcher to perform. (Not that he hasn't) but a little competition is always a good thing
Sounds about right to me. But will MON play it like that been saying for ages that Connor should get a run in the team shows hey we paid 8mill for that potential.
I agree with everybody saying Wickham and Fletcher together, if that is the case then Sess left wing and Johnson right. If we do persist with 1 up top like I think we will, then I won't be to disappointed after yesterday's game. I thought Sess played the number 10 role perfectly. He was playing right across the pitch, finding the ball on both wings and cutting in but also getting past people down the line. When he received the ball in the middle he was looking to drive forward and played some lovely 1 2's and breaking through the defence. I thought he was a class above everybody yesterday, the last 3 games (not QPR), he has been showing signs this form was coming. I do agree before that he was poor and wasn't fitting into the team tactics.
I don't want anyone to think I don't rate the lad, rather where we can get best use of his talents. Wickham is a beast and must be dying for a run in the team. He could be used as the 1 up front with both sessegnon AND Fletcher playing off him in a very attacking formation at home as well but as a pair, him and Fletcher for me with AJ and Sessegnon alternating wings. I just want to see something different.
Our problem is simple, we are atrocious in central midfield and it affects every part of the team. More pressure on the defence which forces the full backs inward and backward which sucks the wingers back meaning they get the ball way too deep, no forward balls from the centre which makes it hard for players to find space and makes us easy to mark. We need not one but two centre midfielders, one big powerful enforcer and one ball player. Ideally it should be difficult for catts to get back into the team when he returns. Depending on how much dos is available id also like us to go after Thomas Ince i think he'd be a revelation here and Wouldnt half give McClean and Johnson a kick up the arse
This reminds me of the phrase "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Undoubtedly, Sessegnon is one of your better players. I would not advocate selling the lad as he can be a game changer in a matter of seconds. Ultimately though, short of putting him out wide, I can see Cests concerns. You do need to play two strikers though. A strength of Sess is his ability to create assists. I am sure he was one of the leading assist makers last season in what was largely an under performing team. What is his crossing ability like? Can he whip in a solid delivery? Admittedly, I do not what you that often and I missed your match yesterday, however it sounds like there were positives to be garnered from it. As an afterthought (too lazy to alter what I have previously written), I know he is small in stature, but could he not be the creative spark in the middle of the midfield. Although he is slight, he is strong on the ball. Alongside Cattermole I think it would be effective.
I'm a fan of Sess, I am happy for CW to get a run out and if he does it has to be with Fletch, I like Frankie Vaughan and would have him in ahead of Seb, Colback etc and I think the team suggested could be ideal v Reading next week but against Chelsea, like it or not we have to have numbers in the midfield or we'll get murdered by Mata, Oscar, Hazard etc. Mig Bardo Cuellar Killa Rose Campbell Gardner Vaughan AJ Sess Fletch or Wickham
Sess' cannot pass the ball. He could not play with Gyan, he could not play with Bendtner and he can't play with Fletcher. He is a skilful player but in our team we cannot afford to play him in the hole. Put him on the wing with a license to roam a bit. Be brave and do it against Chelsea.
I would love to see this set..With McClean not playing with any confidence whatsoever, there is surely nothing to lose by giving it a go.
In short qwop his crossing isn't great from a whipped in ball perspective. Most of his crosses the Tend to be floated our cut backs after beating the man. I'd still have him on the right ahead of Larsson because he will be in the middle anyway
Unless you think Larsson is the best centre midfielder to partner Gardner (who for me is the best we have at the moment), then we would have to drop Larsson to accommodate Sessegnon on the wing. People could build a case to drop Johnson and leave Larsson on the right wing and on the evidence of performances there isnt much between the two. I feel asthough Johnson must be favoured at this point in time.
