I'm supposed to be going to Spa in 2014 (if there's a race, dear god please let there be a race), so cutting my student spending to finance that. Oh, and force an F1 team to give me a job.

Keeping up the standard I have so far in my degree would be another thing.

    1. Make some good progress in my uni studies
    2. Go to the Bathurst 12 hour again.
    3. Go to a V8 Supercar race (F1 in Melbourne is too rich for my blood)

Well I'm a chemist, so on the analytical side I could test fuel & oil samples, etc, or try formulating improved lubricants. Materials science is a big thing for me too, so getting the chance to develop the new carbon fibre would be awesome (I already have some ideas...) And then there's things like tyre analysis too. I'm also pretty good at pure maths and stats, so I think I'd probably suit data analysis too.

I think my problem is that a significant amount of that work is probably outsourced, or in the case of materials R&D, I'm guessing teams probably don't do so much themselves, as the regs state they can't have exclusive access to a material. Any chemistry the teams do require is probably done by few people, who've been in their jobs for a while, so turnover is probably slow (although I'm guessing here).

Still, if Rory Bryne can come from a chemistry degree and become as successful in F1 as he has, it gives me hope that there might be a way in for chemists. What'd be pretty cool is if I could get an F1 team to sponsor me to do a PhD on something that they'd benefit from. But if I can't get anything in motorsport, then I'll probably do a PhD (probably with a more organic synthesis angle) anyway, try again with F1, then have a rethink...

Biomed scientist, so I can analyse samples of drivers that are taking drugs before races. ;)

We are a bunch of brainy people on here I have to say.
