We needed an experienced keeper and Boruc was signed, but since then Adkins has seen potential in letting Gazza gain experience. Boruc would play if he was seen as being much better than Poulo. If NA's decision works, we have a longer term option in Gazza.
Why has he suddenly developed an attiude problem at southampton when for years he wanted to play in EPL? He didnt have one at celtic or fiorentina and he wasnt very keen on serie a As someone said its all very odd you sign a guy with experience, on high wages and don't play him except you throw him in when he isnt match fit, have a goalie on the bench you have no intention of playing cause "he apparently is good for morale" according to some fans and presumably after so many cock ups by gazza will have to put in either davis or boruc. I am sure gazza will be a good goalie but he needs practice at a lower level before his career gets haulted before its hardly started by basic errors that are costing points.
Didn't Nigel used to be a goalie? So presumably he has a pretty good idea what he's looking at. However, I'm confused as to why Boruc hasn't even been on the bench recently. It surely can't all be over that bottle kicking non-incident, can it?
There are only two reasons to have Davis as back-up...he is the second best goalie at the club and/or the team trust him more as a sub. If Boruc was rated by Nigel he would be on the bench.
True. And I like NA and am more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He has far more expertise than me, and he has far more information as well as he observes the team and the skills and attitudes of the various players in training every day. But it's quite possible he is wrong. Managing a team is not an easy task. Saints are a newly promoted team with a smaller budget and reputation compared to the Man U's of the world so every choice is made at the margins. That is the unfortunate lot for us as supporters. We have to somewhat trust those in charge while knowing that their decisions are critical and could well be wrong with little room for error. At least we have Adkins who has proven he can deliver results. Nothing is worse than knowing your club is run by buffoons and/or crooks and there is nothing that can be done about it... which seems to be the situation at Portsmouth.
My stream wasn't exactly full HD but as I said above, nothing stuck to him. If Liverpool had followed shots in, they'd have had a couple of tap ins off him.
Probably knows Gazza isn't quite ready and took a chance on Boruc. Now he obviously reckons that Gazza improving with better experience is a better option than Boruc.
The reason kelv is on the bench is more to do with his leadership and coaching credentials... I noticed it yesterday at Anfield, Kelv would be sent by nige to "warm up" and would spend it barking orders at the defence and gazza. Generally you should have your second best gk on the bench but it is unlikely they will be used and so atkins may see it as more advantageous to have kelv there for his leadership.
I'm guessing the only way to show people that Kelvin can't do it any more is to put him in. Then watch as he makes class reaction saves only to not be able to dive fast enough. Then maybe people will stop wanting Gazza dropped, for me Gazza is in until Jan. Then a new keeper will be brought in.
Sorry but I don't really buy that. Gazza was playing and performing okay when Boruc signed so Boruc must have impressed Adkins in training before the West Ham game or he wouldn't have got in the team. Boruc performed well enough when he did play and has proven over the last five to ten years that he is an excellent goalkeeper. Gazza has played 20-30 games in his entire career, mostly in League 2, and he's hardly improving. If anything his performances have generally got worse as the season has progressed.
I did not think that Gazza looked at all good at Anfield on Saturday. He made a couple of decent stops, but his general goalkeeping does not seem to be improving as yet, he spilt a couple of shots and his kicking was the worst that i have seen from him - he kicked several balls in succession straight into touch, handling possession straight back to Liverpool when we were trying to retain possession better to attack in the 2nd half. Been right thing to stick with this young goalie thus far but Saints cant keep doing so if he is not improving and given our position in the league. Personally I would like to see SKD back for the games v Reading & Sunderland - if he messes up then we know for sure its the end of a great servant, but at least give him a last go at it. I know others on here disagree with this but thats my thoughts about it - Nigel Adkins knows the full picture of course and will do whats best for Saints come Saturday.
Gazza could see that Pool had not players around so we for the safer palming option rather than catching it, normally his handling is very good but I´m sure he did not want to **** up again.
