I think some people would like there to be a divide between Arsenal fans. Which is even more reason why we should stick together and support the lads
That's the thing right some believe its a poor run of form. Others such as myself believe its all we are currently capable of with the board and finances.
Due to Wenger having a blinder with Arsenal in the beginning, most fans expect a lot more from the team than what they've been producing for the last 7 years. Before we used to compete for top honours, now it seems we are content to just be in it and grab 4th place. Fans need to re-evaluate our position and adjust their expectations. We simply are not the same team we used to be in the late 90s and early 2000s. If we're not too careful, we will start sounding like Liverpool fans.....
It's a simple concept of winning unites and losing divides. Over the last 7 years I have witnessed the Arsenal fan base slowly divide into 2 camps. Anti Wenger and pro Wenger. Very rarely are there fans in the middle.
I find it difficult to understand how you can feel it is the board AND the finances. Surely, either the finances are hoding us back and therefore it doesn't matter what the board do, or it is the board, and the money is there, but they aren't spending it. I feel like you stated both options for unity sake (and I applaud you for that), but I can't help feeling that you have an opinion on which is more to blame.
Big divide amongst Arsenal fans but it's not a 50-50 split, I still say 75% of Arsenal fans love Wenger, 20% are angry with the club for failing to spend billions and 5% who genuinely feel Wenger is done and the club would be better of without him.
I don't think there are many gooners who think we should have spent 'billions' but certainly investment in the squad seems to be the main issue for most fans. I think the fan base is divided into two groups. The first thinks things are as good as they can be considering the stadium move and all of the financial constraints that entailed. The second thinks things could be much better with much more investment in the squad while not being reckless with the club's future. I am of the latter group. We made a profit on transfers this summer and considering the strength of our squad I think that's negligent to say the least.
I would say that I straddle both of those views I can see why we have been frugal since we moved, but I think the board are too cautious with their spending
I think this is what most people think and feel, it's just the anger by some fans that spill over to abuse. I've been saying this for ages, as long as we get 4th place, we will continue to employ a safety first appoach. This is in itself a risky policy. Do they think that Wenger will be manager forever, or that other teams won't improve? It's like they've taken things for granted, which is shocking business sense in itself. The time to change is now, not in the next few years when the decision is taken out of your hands.
I think this is where some fans lose respect, when they start abusing our players and manager. I've got no time or sympathy for those who want to slag off our own. It's not constructive and doesn't add any value to the issues. It just undermines confidence further. I think the issue of finishing 4th has been misinterpreted. I honestly think the club want to finish first, but there is a sober recognition that it's unlikely in the current circumstances and that a top four spot is more achievable currently. There's also the issue for the manager of instilling confidence in his players, which means that he can't consider 4th as a failure as it would undermine the confidence of the players. I think our team go into every game trying to win it, so that's all you can ask of them. I do however think that the board could assist us by loosening the purse strings to enable us to be able to compete more effectively, that would be the biggest confidence boost it could give the team, manager and fans
Might be happening soon, if this article is to be believed. It cites an interview for a French TV station so it's not just mere speculation:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Thierry-Henry-loan-PLUS-players-January.html
