Inside Lane: Will Harry succeed in raiding Spurs for his former favourites? By Alan Robins Thursday, November 29, 2012 12:15 PM Tottenham blogger Alan Robins examines Harry Redknappâs chances of signing Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson and Scott Parker in January. Harry Redknapp has only been at QPR for a few days, but the speculation has already begun â will he raid Spurs to sign some of his former players and, if so, who? This will undoubtedly continue until the end of the January transfer window and, irrespective of intent, the speculation â which so far surrounds Michael Dawson, Scott Parker and Jermain Defoe â may have an unsettling effect on the players. As to the likelihood of the transfers happening, I donât believe a word regarding Defoe. Having had trust placed in him by Andre Villas-Boas â as opposed to Redknapp, who benched him for much of last season â Defoe has responded with goals, earned a regular first-team starting place and would surely see QPR as a step down. With Adebayor probably away on Afcon duty in January, it is difficult to see Defoe going anywhere unless stupid money is offered. The chances of Dawson and Parker leaving may be more borderline. Dawson nearly joined QPR in August and has generally struggled to get game time under AVB, the perception being that his pace is unsuited to the high defensive line. However, Dawson performed well against West Ham, with any lack of pace being covered by Llorisâ speed off his line. It is possible to see a place for him throughout this season, with AVB using him in Europe and to an extent in the Premier League â probably against the more stereotypical English centre forwards, such as Andy Carroll. But QPR need a leader on the pitch and Parker would certainly fit the bill. Having missed the season so far through injury, the 32-year-old has seen Sandro make the defensive midfield role his own. Another player in that mould is needed, as cover for the Brazilian or alongside him, but is Parker starting to feel the years of putting his body on the line? He is a class player, but if QPR came in with an offer of around £4million, would Spurs be tempted to take the money? After all, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy did not originally want to sign the ageing Parker, and needed plenty of persuading by Redknapp. Parker and Dawson might leave, but replacements would be needed. And when January targets were being planned, if this scenario was not considered, would their sales be agreed, given that other areas must be prioritised? Weâll see in January. Defoe won't leave and if Dawson keeps playing then he won't either. Parker is a maybe but seems to be picking up a few injuries and would QPR not have learned by now? It's all because of the Harry factor that these stories will surface. I guess people will say Danny Rose as well because he said well done after the game? One thing is for sure if we are dead and buried by xmas then the board will not get players of this type in, so i guess it all depends where we are at xmas?
Is there anyone in the current Spurs starting 11 (maybe even the bench as well) that we wouldn't take I wonder?
Adebayor - cock Brad Friedel - age William Gallas - cock but Id like Kyle Walker Steven Caulker Tom Huddlestone Gylfi Sigurdsson Kyle Naughton
Well I thought that might be stretching it a bit, even the ones I listed were long shots. Notice how 4 out of the 5 were bought when they were teenagers and progressed to become England or possible England players. Now thats a good buying policy.
Don't want to sound too much like Flyer but I don't want to see us buying anybody over 3o in Jan. on loan yes but not on contract. We have enough older/experienced players. We need young energetic hungry players
Also cocks but that's not really the point. If Traore continues in his impressions of a porcelain man then I'd like to see a bid for Assou-Ekotto.
Do you see me calling for Ferdinand to play? I dont like Zamora either and I hate Barton so at least Im consistent.
Didnt he state that he only plays for the money? Its a shame we couldnt get Taiwo to sign but who knows what his demands were.
'CanarySpurs' You're the twat who supports 2 clubs aren't you? Now that's laughable Don't come on here giving it the biggun, you mug.
How rude. Still, what can you expect from (assuming you're not Jewish) a goyische schlub who spends his weekends shouting "Yid army" either in the mistaken belief that he's striking a blow against anti-Semitism or, more likely, having no idea what he's saying?
Totally agree especially with our current position. Defoe has said on SSN that he loves playing at Spuds and want's to end his career there. HE DOES NOT WANT TO LEAVE, so that should keep the resident ITKN's quiet for a bit? Truth is Defoe has never wanted to come to QPR and after today should end any forum speculation. What i do want to know is why Canary/Spurs? Because if you support both clubs you need to get a life and bore someone else.
