So are you saying it should be John Bishop this year?

I understand the point that you are making (I think) but I understood that SPOTY was for the athlete that has achieved something amazing in their sport.

The feats of Izzard and Bishop (and Walliams I suppose) are tremendous, but they are not in the field of sport. They were magnificent efforts to raise money for Comic Relief (of Sport Relief, I cannot remember which).

I personally think that SPOTY should be for our sports men and women, not for comedians doing amazing fundraising work

we'll have to agree to differ there; anyone doing anything of a sporting nature counts as sport and counts as in the field of sport as far as i can see. anyway, on further investigation it turns out he was given an award at the ceremony, which i didn't know about: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tv_and_radio/sports_personality_of_the_year/8406078.stm

as for john bishop, an impressive effort, though not quite as impressive as izzard's 1127 miles on foot.

I would go for Wiggo but it's been an exceptional year , Farah and Ennis must be close

It's almost certainly going to be Lord Coe.

The Telegraph ran an online vote for the winner and almost 30,000 people voted. Wiggins stormed it with over 52% of the votes, Murray was second with over 21.5% of the votes, then it dropped dramatically to 7% for Farah, 6% for Ennis and 5% for Weir(the Paralympian, for those not familiar with him). I suspect the real thing will be rather closer.

It should be Anthony Knockaert of course ... or perhaps David Nugent (who I recall got an excellent hat-trick in one game) ... <whistle>

.. Jess Ennis would get my vote, partly because she carried the expectation of gold for four years and then not only delivered but did it in style ... but more importantly, she is by far and away my preferred partner for a game of two person naked jelly tub twister ...

.. but Andy Murray is going to win it ... like it or not (Mystic Fosse)

If you studied your sport before making a rash statement of " Not sure why that rowing woman is there for starters" She was the first women rower to win a world championship medal in all Heavyweight Olympic rowing classes, First British woman to win medals in 4 consecutive Olympic Games. HOWS THAT FOR STARTERS.

Wiggins will win as he is the first Brit ever to win the Tour de France.. that's like an away win.. I'm not sure any French cyclist has won the Tour de England and that's down to our motorways..

... do not underestimate the power of the tennis lobby ... advantage Murray (wouldn't be my choice by the way) ... but I remember when Damon Hill won it for coming second! ... there are some sports that seem to carry more weight than others ... and I'm not meaning darts ...

First Place will be BRADLEY WIGGINS

2nd Place will be MO FARAH

3rd Place will be Jessica Ennis.

get your money on that order. imo. <ok>

NB. Dont know why they have bothered with Rory McIlroy and Andy Murray though. Shame as any other year those 2 would be going head to head for the title. imo

If Wiggins doesn't win, I'm going on hunger strike, while simultaneously refusing to pay my TV licence.

Well I told you ...... and shall not therefore be very surprised if, in due course, I see breaking news that a still fat man with incredibly bad taste in transport has been outed by the licence detector van in the Hull area ...

Golf and Tennis mate ... each vote they get counts as triple in comparison to other sports ... apart from dwarf throwing .. which gets a smaller tariff ...
