@MatKendrick I asked MoN today if #safc would try to re-sign Bent in January. Guess the answer...

    from@MsiDouglas Mark Douglas twitter
@MatKendrick 'I wouldn't comment on other team's players.... Would the fans here welcome him back..?'

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have to say for the amount of money it would take to get Benty back even though he is a top class goalscorer is he what we need?

We all know that we need quality in the central midfield, there is a total lack of quality in that area bar Catts, no one with an eye for a pass forward and thats just for starters, we certainly need 2 quality central midfielders but we also do need a striker but does Bent fit the mould?

IMO Bent and Fletcher are both goalscorers and good ones at that but they don't really bring others into play like we seen with Bendtner and Gyan its just not there game, I have to say if we did go and splash 10m+ on a centre forward then it has to be someone that has a really good footballing brain and can bring others into the game because we are crying out for someone to be able to bring Sess and AJ into the game more.

Funnily enough, I was just thinking about this very same subject today,,Both Bent's and Sunderland's fortunes have not been the same since he left, and I wonder whether he regrets his decision to jump ship..
For me, if he apologised for the way he done things then I would be able to forgive and forget and welcome him back.

Poolie you must be watching a different Fletcher than me mate because I think his link up play and general team play is excellent. I'd love to see an out and out poacher in the team.

We do also need a pacy midfielder to help link up the play but we desperately need more out and out firepower imo. Now whether that's Bent or not is not for me to say but I wouldn't be as pissed as I would have been 12 months ago and his 15 to 20 goals a season would come in right handy imo.

Not happy at the way he orchestrated his move but if we did sign him and he started producing then I reckon we'd all (tolerate) rather than forgive him

I'd pay no more than £10m now though. Don't think I'd want to match his wages either.

That's not to say I don't think he'd be a good signing, I can imagine him doing very well. Just don't think he's the valuable commodity he was when he left us.

If Bent wants to come you'll know well in advance. He engineered a move away from Tottenham (though he had been given little choice!) and annoyed many with his tweets then, he did the same at Sunderland and you can be sure he'll do the same at Villa if he thinks he can benefit from it.

As a player he's sure to bang in a few goals when given a run of games and the confidence of the manager, so from a footballing perspective I would have thought it was a 'no-brainer'. As a person he's just a mercenary, even if he apologised I think he'd only be doing it to win the right to come back. I'm not having a go at him, its the way of the game nowadays. He's just blatant about it. I'm not yet convinced Demba Ba is any better.

would rather spend more on a creative midfield

He is ****e now so no.
What he did to us was unforgivable and some would have him back when he is a worse player now?
    Amazes me!

    Yes from me

He is in a really ****e team (who beat us at home, ironic eh) he has been injured and lost his place to Bendeke who does look a decent player and Agbonlahore, both completely different players to Bent, just because Lambert doesnt like him doesnt mean he is ****e all of a sudden.

So a huge yes from me, if we want him that is.

So you want to take a fully fit player who can't even get in the SQUAD of a really ****e team, because he is not scoring goals?
He is dropped because he was missing horrendous sitters again!
He got away with it up here because he was managing to put a few away.
If he doesn't actually manage to score he gives nothing to any team.
Same as when he left us, he was missing easy chances and giving nothing to the team.

but how can he score goals if he cant get in the team?

every striker misses sitters, but at least he gets in positions to miss them.

He was dropped because he was ****e.

His replacement who is 10 times the player Bent is, has scored the winner for Villa tonight.

i'd swallow my bitterness and have him back. that said, given the choice between him and a ten million quid midfielder, i'd choose the latter. we could have messi up front and he wouldn't score at the minute, no service.
