Think you misread the thread mate. I was happy at Defoe being left out of the England squad and I will be again if Woy decides to over look him . When it comes to Spurs, he has to be one of the first names on the team sheet for me, been great this season.
you're probably right. if not in Jan, then in the summer. He's not getting any younger, after all But let's not wish him away! we desperately need him right now, even if the club feels that his days are numbered due to age.
It's a tough one with ol' Scotty Parker. While I wouldn't sell him in Jan, I think realisticly we should consider any approaches in the summer providing we get a replacement in before hand. Though that said, I'd be more than happy for him to stay until the end of his contract in 2014 (I think) if he's able to keep up the type of performances we saw last season. We're lucky to have two fantastic players in the DM role in him and Sandro.
It's plain to see that he's thriving under AVB's system. However I don't think Woy will leave him out for a qualifier, there aren't many English forwards that are actually scoring ATM. So I think AVB has to read the Fergie manual regarding internationals and mysteriously delare that he is unfit for the next England game and then have him regain his fitness for the weekend.
Defoe is definitely a better striker in a 4-4-2 system, and where the team pushes up to give him the support. Both of these factors were in play, on Sunday. What has been infuriating about Defoe has been his inconsistency, even going a whole season with barely a hatful of goals to his credit. Sunday was great for him, but I want to see more consistency from him, before I declare him the panacea of all our striking ills.
All strikers have games they disappear in, but with JD its one too many, hot or cold that bloke, rarely in the middle.
I think yesterday showed the best of Defoe but also in a way showcased the worst. For example, after his brilliant solo run for the first goal if he hadn't scored then we would be giving him a lot of stick for not passing to someone in a better position. But as he scored he's a genius. Thats part and parcel of the game though I guess.
I think Defoe has been very good this season. Worked hard, made great strides in his lone striker role. I think he is in a purple patch right now which could become the highlight of his career at Spurs if he continues in the same vain. So far this season, hat off to Defoe!
Quite agree, despite my comments against him, decent run of fitness too. I think the worst thing he did was not score the 6th v Wigan and be the only player with a double hattrick, I'm sure he had a one on one but fluffed it. He's been trying again ever since!
We've done this 100 times before but...my view remains unchanged. Yes, Defoe has his faults - he frequently goes alone when others are better placed, etc. But, he scores goals - he always score goals - no matter what you may think of him, his record is of bring a regular, and reliable premiership goalscorer. As much as I have been in the AVB sceptics club, he has reinvigorated Defoe. He will be near the top of this seasons top scorers, so long as he remains injury free.
This He's a predator. A greedy predator. But if a team plays to his strengths he'll score for fun. He's also one of the few players in the prem who can just pull a goal out of the bag when you least expect it, often from a "nothing" situation. It amazes me how some fans see him as a bit of a liability. He's a huge asset IMO. One that's irreplaceable due to the type of player he is. Finding someone in today's market to replace him and his goals, would cost us money we can't afford.
Yeah agree, he's looked a whole new player this season. His work rate in games has always been decent but now he's working harder for the team and not just himself and it's paying dividends.
