Say Ashley done his usual and removed Pardew from his position and we started looking for a new manager, who would you take and why? The person you choose must be realisitic, however he can be in a job at the moment. So basically anyone you want, in the bounds of reason. So not the usual "Mourinho!" shouts please.

Personally, I'd go for a few, as much as I hate him Redknapp would be somone I'd look at, I like the players he signs, and the fact he gets the best out of people. He's liked in the business and certanly would do a good job for us. Here is another strange choice, but hear me out, Mark Hughes. For some reason, I've always liked the sap, and it has nothing to do with being a Wales fan! (Okay that's a lie.) I feel that when he is at clubs which don't give him huge amounts, he does well. But when you give him the money that's when the struggle begins, he over buys and causes great disharmoney at the clubs or just signs guff. Hughes is a manager I've always respected and would give a chance.

Now it's your turn. Who would you take and why. Remember, this isn't me saying I want Pardew gone, it's just an interesting discussion.

Martinez because he speaks better English than English managers and clearly indicates he is of higher intelligence, he likes to play football the way it should be and he has an eye for a player. I'd actually be very happy if we got him and its a realistic target.

I've always rated Roberto martinez, plays nice football and is doing well with what Wigan have. The ability to operate on a tight budget would do him well here. I also like Gus Poyet at Brighton, nice football seems like a nice bloke (despite scoring screamers against us).

Martinez! I completely forgot about that sexual little Spanish man! He's a top bloke and manager, yes he has my vote AND he's realisitic.

I know some will have a go at you, but to me this is forum life. I don't agree with your view about Pardew, but hypothetical discussions and rants online are perfectly fine. Going to games and screaming abuse is another matter and that is unacceptable.

As it happens, though, I think this thread will serve a suitable purpose. Who out there is even an option to be Newcastle manager if you want Pardew gone? There's no outstanding candidates you'd really want the reigns thrust to in all honesty. Martinez, quite likable yes, plays some decent football, but by gum he's often **** with signings, and his teams usually can't even defend as well as we did yesterday... Of the other usual candidates, Moyes would never drop Everton for a sideways (at best) step, Redknapp has become QPR boss (and never goes North anyway), Sparky is like Souness mkII, RDM would have to have us play in our half 10-0-0 every game, Joe Kinnear has too many problems to come back and Keegan's still running from the last time... Oh and Shearer is **** at MOTD and Ashley hates him, he has no experience bar relegating us.

So, that leaves foreign exploits and what's best described as a wild stab in the dark. Excellent.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if MA/Derek appointed Hughes and that would devastate me.

I am not at all happy with what's going on at the minute, but I think we'd regret sacking Pardew simply because of the type of manager we'd bring in after him.

Martinez. Although we'll most likely have to pay Wigan a few mil in comp.

AM I the only one who'd be tempted to take a punt on Solkjaer?

Evidently not because he's flown in for talks with several clubs. The obvious problem is the term "punt" though, because with managers from lesser leagues, it really is just a punt. Ole seems desperate for an English job of any description, but can't even get the Blackburn job when the guy who did get it says whoever takes it would be stupid <doh>

If we were asking this question 4 years down the line, when Pardew has made a suitable base from which someone else can spring, I'd say De Boer. Plays the right way and obviously has talent at taking a team with potential on. But obviously there's no way in hell he'd come here, so Mourinho it is...

To be honest, I knew with my choices I would recieve some hate. I personally, do not care what people think of my views but I'm always pleased when people agree. This comes with forum life. I for one don't want to see Pardew sacked, don't see this post as me saying that, I do however, think at the moment who can we have? My two choices will not be brought in, and the people you'd think are not good enough. Atleast Martinez plays decent football. But still not good enough. I worry for our future, and hope to god Pardew sorts this slump out, or we're in deep trouble.

For me, Di Canio is a tad too batshit insane to run a football club in the prem. But time will tell! Then again, Neil Warnock has a job so Di Canio can have one I suppose!

I'll play along... Roberto Di Matteo.... He won the Champions League and FA Cup whilst on an interim contract and is now a free agent.
He's young, talented and plays attractive football. <ok>

Im pleased people are saying Martinez because i've really rated him since his Swansea days! Hes been top of my list during the last couple of vacancies. Lets not forget hes the one who put all the foundations in place at Swansea that Souza and especially Rogers took credit for after! Without him, Wigan wouldnt last long in this division..they certainly wouldnt be playing some of the stuff they play infront of the 150 fans that bother to attend their matches!

Few seasons ago i would have said this was unrealistic, but now he seems to be more recognised, aston villa and l'pool both looking at him in the summer - good to see but if hes to leave Wigan i'd want it to be here. Not that im saying Pardew out!

Ashley himself should be the one to go. If he isn't interested in doing what it takes to make the club as successful as it can be on the field, he should sell up and fck off.

I agree that MA does need to make an investment but I do have respect for what he's doing in making the club stable. I would rather see none of them go and we build on a strong foundation but to do that we need to start winning again.
