Good performance from Spurs and a much-needed three points in the bag. Liverpool on Wednesday. Onwards & Upwards!
Absolutely loved today, we played really well, really pleased for Dempsey and well done to AVB for playing Daws and Hugo, he da Boss
Good morning Spurs well played yesterday. You played well and fully deserved your win. I am realistic enough to know that a third of the way through the season, as a newly promoted side, 8th place is pretty decent. Losing 3-1 away with an 11 that cost 10m against what is effectively a champions league side with a 70m starting 11 - well, I can't have any major complaint. With regards to the chants. Well it's just embarrassing and mindless and it is something that is a real problem in football. Please don't pigeon hole us though. Most football fans have these goons including yourselves. I have lots of examples if you want them but I don't think there is any need. Anyway. Well played and I look forward to the return fixture.
Strange to find us third on the MOTD2 lineup. Frustrating that we get to be behind that terrible match from the Bridge (those were the highlights we saw!?!?!?) The bonus is of course that our good performance might get less notice, which is good if other teams miss it (unlikely) but not so good if the media continue with their standard "AVB doesn't know what he's doing" approach. Frustrating, but once they've formed an opinion you know they aren't going to change their mind easily (if at all).
Lawro said that if Spurs win then we'd all love AVB again and he's right in some cases. He gave us a 2-0 which as it turned out 3-1 was a two goal win so he's right again in principle. trixie,I had decided not to provoke you after the match as there's no need as you say. Spurs won the match so that satisfies me and pees off all the others who said we'd lose it. Success is it's own revenge. Thanks for the comments and very good analysis of your own team.
I'm a very happy man. 3-1 against the team I hate second to Arsenal. A great performance by ALL players (makes a change). Dawson FINALLY getting the nod over Gallas and boy did it pay off. Thought we played really well for pretty much all of the 90 minutes. Got the ball down, played neat football and just in general taught West Ham "The Academy of Football" a lesson. Never thought I'd say this but Dempsey was my MOTM. Great link up play throughout the whole game, fantastic dink/ chip for the assist on Bale's goal and nice little pass to Lennon for when he set up Defoe, was so unlucky not to score with that shot that hit the bar too. A great performance, why hasn't he been able to do that each week?! Defoe's goal was my goal of the season for Spurs so far, great run and good finish to beat Jussi at his near side. Walker had his best game of the season too, solid defensively and worked well with Lennon. Huddlestone looked a far cry from the poor performances we've seen lately which was great to see. Daws being back just made our defence look so much more solid in my opinion, he's a great defender and a great guy. Just hope AVB sticks by him, surely he's proved a step up on Gallas?! A shame we conceded a sloppy goal, it was unfortunately Caulker's fault as Lloris screamed at him to leave it but he's young and bar that had a great game alongside Daws. Overall, a game full of positives, players improving form, better selections, great team performance and Mousa getting another 10 minutes is great. Hopefully he's not far off from starting.
trickster described as a CL side, well with Modric and VdV I'd agree but without those two I'd have to hesitate.
Well you finished 4th last season is what I meant. You did sell those 2 but the money was reinvested in your squad so I doubt you are too much weaker? Unless you are saying you bought badly? You did outplay us yesterday there is no doubt. With Benayoun and Vaz Te missing and Jarvis not fully fit we struggled to offer much of an attacking threat and we missed Collins in defence. We have had a bad 6 years on and off the field and we are rebuilding. Yesterday aside, I can't have too many complaints this season. We are 8th and just a point behind your squad of multi million pound superstars so I am reasonably happy.
I know what you're saying trixie, yes we finished 4th but I feel the replacements aren't as good as the players we sold and I wouldn't call us a CL side at the mo. I posted at the time that we hadn't done enough in the transfer market. We need to be consistent over the whole match instead of just one half. The Bubbles are doing quite well as you say but I never have rated your manager. If things don't go right for both of us I might be involved in a bidding war with you for Chris Hughton. He seems to me to be suited to you or even us.
Hughton was the fans choice when Sam took over. I think we all see Allardyce as a short term fix to get us established in the top flight. I don't think there is any danger of us going down under him and for this and next season that will be fine but I would imagine beyond that it will be time for change as we will want more than just survival each season. With regards to your squad now vs last season. I don't think there is too much difference. Pretty much all the incoming money was reinvested. Dembele, Sigurdsson, Dempsey were decent replacements for Modric, RVDV, Pienaar. Plus you upgraded your keeper and defence with Lloris and Vertonghen. I would say with the right manager that's still close to a top 4 squad. Anyway that's a different debate altogether. All the best gents and I will see you on here in a few months for the reverse game.
Well Dembele, who was our biggest money signing wasn't fit to start either and we also had Benny, Kaboul, Parker and Ade out so we all have our injuries. Thing is, with Huddlestone on the pitch, if you got the ball down and passed it round your midfield you'd find he often left us effectively a man light in midfield. Your team was set up for hoofball, as our fans highlighted(), and even though we weren't great in the air against you, you were surprisingly disorganised and didn't manage to take advantage. Upfront in the second half in particular though we were very good and ran riot at times. Overall a good game for us but I won't look forward to another round of fouling and hoofball at Upton Park, just as I won't look forward to playing Stoke.
Just seen your next 6 games. Butal! If you take 6 points or more from them, you'll really be in for a good season. Otherwise possibly in a false position. I'm not saying we would have won the game. Im saying we were a bit limited in attack with those players missing/unfit. Of course you had injuries aswell but the difference is, you have a big squad full of quality competition to cover your absentees. We have Gary O'Neil and Joey O'Brien. We are a long way behind you in terms of quality right now but I am confident that we are on the right track and our time will eventually come. Anyway, time to do some work. See you later.
You are conveniently ignoring a player who cost £35 mil. Yes , you only have him on loan but that was his supposed value.
Thats interesting, are you 100% it was Lloris?, I know you sit in that area of the ground...not too far from me when I go! A shout was heard on the tv coverage, but that could come from anywhere. Others heard something thinking it was more like "clear it", but no-one has pinpointed it as you have.
I'm a 100% sure it was Hugo Notso. Was even looking in Hugo's direction as I was expecting the ball to reach him and he definitely shouted towards Caulker. If I'm honest it's hard to clarify whether it was "Leave it" or "Clear it" but his body language suggested to me it was leave it.
