Given that nigel only gives Shaw 70 mins per game before bringing on fox, I can't see him playing two games in 4 days. So which do you think Nigel will pick him for? Today or Norwich on Wednesday?
Today in order to secure points. If he's okay, play him on Wednesday. I'm sure at his age you can recover in three days.
Precisely. Unless he gets sent off or picks up an injury, I see no reason why he can't play both games.
For me, the issue isn't two games in four days, it's three games in seven days. I don't think Adkins would be bothered too much about the former. However it is the latter which is correct, and I suspect Adkins will rest Shaw for one of them. Not sure which though - although I certainly don't expect it to be today.
Sure he will start him against Newcastle and then judge him on how he does in training. Young enough to recover physically, but mental tiredness may be an issue.
At his age I worked a forty two hour week plus Saturday mornings on overtime as an apprentice in heavy engineering, trained on a Wednesday evening and played football on a Saturday and then again on Sunday morning for our pub team. On top of all of that I was out on the razzle most nights. Kids today are pampered softies.
The difference is Godders that (except to the lovely Mrs Godders) you are not potentially worth millions.
The current crop of excellent Academy players coming through reminds me of when we used to have Matty, the Wallaces, Shearer and Francis in the team. So in the past we have acheived nearly 50% of our team coming through our youth team/Acadamy and it is more than realistic now.
I can't see any reason he can't play both games. Stamina (which he needs to improve) is not the same as capacity for recovery.
Play against Newcastle, rest/half a game against Norwich, plays against Liverpool. 3 games in 7 days is a lot for any player, and Shaw is young and hasn't lasted past 70 minutes in any of his games yet so wouldn't be surprised if he didn't manage to start all three games, or went off at or just after half time in one or two of them. Nigel won't want to push him, he probably could get through all three games, but Nigel won't put him at even a slight risk of injury, so wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of Fox or the Richardson/Clyne swaparoo.
This doesn't seem to be a problem for Sterling at Liverpool. Play Shaw every game and IF he tires, take him off.
And who said people were getting carried away after a couple of wins?! I think it's not unreasonable to think we could possibly get a point from Liverpool, but with the game at being at Anfield, unless Suarez, Agger and Sterling get suspended/injured, I don't think they will be 'there for the taking'.
