Hope so. I genuinely we thought we were going to have the best keeper since Big Pat when he signed But I fear AVB has put an end to those hopes, if they were ever realistic in the first place.
i dont think Paul Robinson is such a good keeper so what is with this love in? do we want a team full of players we can all just have dirty fantasies about? terrible. If Brad goes then so be it..he did well..good bloke...but id have no complaints about Lioris getting the chance to settle into the first team.
So Lloris is garbage now is he, and it's all AVB fault? Are you Alf Garnett, should you not be supporting West Ham? please log in to view this image
Well thankfully, despite AVB's shameful treatment of the captain of France, it looks like he still wants to play for us. I reckon, first chance he gets he''ll be off, but anyway, we can enjoy for a while, I hopw, probably the highest ranked player ENIC have ever signed. Well done Levy for that, shame AVB stuck him on the bench for so long.
If we had Michalis Konstantinou on the books and he wasn't getting much game time, would you be complaining how we treated the captain of Cyprus?
Absolutely shameful treatment of our goalkeeper by AVB, sending him all the way to Italy bypassing his beloved France. To think our poor goalkeeper has been confined to the training ground and only let out for the occasional match. No wonder his confidence is shot and he put in such a poor display that without doubt is all down to AVB. Terrible, Terrible. Sacre Bleu!
Sorry, you are wrong. He is and was a great goalkeeper who suffered a dip in form/confidence. At his best he was our best since Jennings imo. As for the "love in" this is part of the reason
As SD has pointed out, Robinson had a connection with the fans that made him more important than another keeper of equal ability would have been. He seemed to get a lot of the things that the crowd enjoy and he was happy to interact with them during the game, which was fairly unusual. I think that Martin Jol had a similar connection. Probably still does. Robbo, what's the score? Robbo, Robbo, what's the score?
This connection with the fans was down to several things which fans love to see. Robbo signed a long term contract with us when we were crap and going nowhere fast. At the time his reputation was high and he was possibly one of the best keepers in Europe at the time he committed long term to us. His rapport with the fans was immediate, not only did he throw his gloves into the crowd at the end of every game, he frequently threw his shirt and boots as ell. In fact in his appearances at the Lane for Blackburn, he has continued to throw his gloves to the Spurs fans. He also personally paid for 50 footballs which he signed and then had them kicked into the terraces as a thank you for the backing he was getting from the crowd. The club produced a limited edition Spurs Opus to celebrate the 125 anniversary. This was a massive detailed record of the clubs history and was so bulky and heavy, it took 4 men to lift them. They retailed at around 3 thousand quid and Robbo bought one himself. They were exclusively numbered and Robbo bought the very first one. Fans love things like this from the players and even when his form dipped, "England's Number One" continued to be sung from the stands.
It was still sung when he returned to the Lane with Blackburn too, wasn't it, SC? As you point out, it's a rare connection in today's game, especially from a player that's not come through a club's youth system.
Black burn have told Robbo he has'nt a future there, and will be given a free transfer, love to see him come back to Spurs ,but i think Jol will be after him for Fulham,he would probably have more chances of a first team place there
Yes it was PNP, along with "You're Spurs and you know you are", which is sung exclusively to Robbo, Martin Jol and Chris Hughton. Somewhat bizarrely, it was also sung to Defoe immediately after he scored a penalty against us at Fratton Park for Portsmouth in the game which is more famous for the Sol Campbell abuse stuff.
When Harry first joined us, he was determined to bring David James to the club. When Levy told him where to stick that idea, he/we did make an approach to Robbo. Not sure if he still does, but at the time he still had his house in Chigwell and was very keen to return. I think the reason why it never happened is because Levy had lost some respect for Robinson over how he took advantage of Hans Segers' good nature and took it easy in training. it was always said that if Robbo ever wanted an easy day, then Segers would let him have one yet knew the guy should really have been working harder to rectify his poor form at the time.
Funny enough we had a debate before the season as to who was the better keeper Chesney or Brad, I said yours was, and was amazed when some people actually thought Brad was better, to me it's an easy decision in favour of your keeper Even more amazingly, some people were amazed that I thought Chesney was better that Brad, because they thought Brad was way better. Opinions, eh Well I still stick by mine, Chesny is better than Brad, and now Lloris has arrived I think he will be better than Chesney I've no doubt that he was before AVB got his mitts on him and messed him up a treat just hoping that's all behind us, we'll see quite soon i reckon. I also said that you had the better squad overall and would finish above us again, I still stick by that too, although, if you hadn't struck lucky with ADe and Webb, I might be revising that opinion somewhat
