You have a really low threshold for excellence then mate. Evans made a really good tackle against Barnsley, that was all. Its getting like a Stewart thread now, the longer he doesnt play the better he gets. Bruce has made it clear from day one, CM is an area he wanted to improve. WHY?? Some of SB's statements, we need goals from all over, we need to move the ball quicker. Thats why Meyler's come in. Evans and Mckenna cant do it.
Meyler played like a tart!!! Even worse than Oli. Knocked off the ball far too easy looked more like a premiership puff than a footballer. Get Evans back in, we missed his work rate in the midifeld.
Some city fans seem to suffer for that well known condition "x gets better the longer it has been since he had a good game itus'. In Latin, I gather it's "x isus ****us but imaclueless numptyus" Oil scored 1 good goal against stoke years ago. Never have I watched him and thought "yup, he was class today and earns his £20k plus weekly wage there". Hes got quick-ish feet for a big guy but his passing was abysmal yesterday, he couldn't jump and whilst he's got the build to crunch people, he tends to only win the ball when the other guy bottles it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love him to be our enforcer but he isn't the answer. That said, I'm also not convinced that Evans is the supreme player people are making him out to be. He's neat and tidy and sho ramge passi ga d movement is good. However, he's not box to box, he doesn't get stuck in, his long range passing is poor and he makes McLean look prolific in from of goal. We need someone with ash's organisational skills and bottle, quinns engine, Koreans shooting boots and Evans vision. Sadly, whoever he is, will probably costs us £10mil!
The question isn't if Evans is a world beater , it's is he better than Oli and should he have played I've never rated Oli , he should be so much better than he is , for a big man his physical presence is just not there
''That said, I'm also not convinced that Evans is the supreme player people are making him out to be''. Did anyone say that ? Really ?
Make no mistake Meyler is here because Bruce fancies him. His intention is to take him on a permanent, it doesn't matter what he plays like, it's now a question of persuading him to come and hoping Sunderland want rid. I don't mind managers being ruthless and MANAGING. What I don't think is good management is to state publicly that team selection is based on who wants the shirt most, who is producing the goods blah blah blah, and then go and do the exact opposite. That is what Bruce has done and it will breed resentment in the squad.
Give Meyler a chance. He needs to get upto speed, thats why he is only coming on as a sub. I guess this month is to get him match fit and see how he does. Bruce knows the score better than us. We need some height in there, I honestly think thats the only reason Oli is getting in before Evans.
What our manager wants a player?? A player he knows really well?? In a position he has stated from day one we have a problem with?? Who the **** does the trophy laden ex skipper of Man United, with 10 years of Premiership management under his belt think he is!!
That was so at Brum, and I can understand that when having to face up to Zigic with a relatively short back line. But when you consider how much of a powder puff Olofinjana is for a guy of his height and how poorly he played at St Andrews, why was he picked yesterday? As for Meyler, as I have said, my issue is that Bruce has openly said those in form will wear the shirt. Up til when he was dropped Evans was the most in form player in the squad. Yesterday he was benched in preference to a 6 foot something pansie, who was then replaced by another 6 foot something player who is as ring rusty as Ricky Hatton. Do we not want to win games?
Hi lads, Dropped in to ask about Meyler, so question saved by reading this thread! Bear in mind the lad has played very, very little in 3 years, and give him a bit of time, he's a smashing player. Bruce had a habit of picking his favourites , rather than boys in form, at Sunderland, used to **** us off a bit (lot..).
Oli looked dire, but I think that the reason we lost was simple, we spent too much time marking Austin. He pulled players away from their normal areas and we started to gift them soft balls. At one point we had three players on him and we had the ball in the centre circle only for it to be booted off for a throw. Brady was still watching Austin and not the ball.
Again, you fail to get the point. I want the best player on current form to own the shirt. That is what Bruce has said he also wants and what is not happening.
100% Agreed with you upto "changes" but after that you are out of order. Oli and Koren imo should have been rested for the Palace and Forest games. Meyler and Evans should have started the Burnley game imo. We gave up midfield too easy for my liking until the 2nd half.
