Though people keep saying Marney was greeted by applause at the start of the game, and received a bit of banter when he slipped over. Also, if this 'abuse' did occur, how many footballers have to put up with chants/taunts from the crowd yet don't react? They let their actions on the pitch do the talking and don't rise to it. Surely the mature thing for Marney to do would be to ignore it and celebrate with his own fans. Even if he was abused by a minority of clowns, what does that show to the people who gave him a warm welcome at the start of the game?

Exactly how I feel about it.

It irritates the hell out of me how football fans give out so much unnecessary stick, but as soon as a player gives a bit back there's hell on.

Take it on the chin and move on.

If he did get abuse from a minority, what does his reaction say to the supporters who applauded his name when it was read out? (which I understand was the majority of city fans)

He got loads of stick in his last few years here.
I actually thought the reception was polite but nothing more.
He did play with passion and urgency unlike some of ours.
Dont think any goal celebration is too bad.
Spoilt himself late on though with his booking

Thought the "welcome" was lukewarm at best and only polite.
He got plenty of stick from the crowd when he was here so in some ways its justified.
Thought he was a pit of a prick later on when he got his booking seconds after being poleaxed which the ref fell for and gave a drop ball.

Never understand the drop ball rules but i thought the ref was out of order by allowing Burnley to hoof it out of play for a throw in rather than playing it back to our defenders.

It sure takes some balls for an ex player to celebrate like that in front of the home fans .... And also some COCK. Yep Dean Marney, you ARE Jimmy Saviles son.

We all gave him warm applause at kick-off, despite him being **** for the last 2 years he played for us, and he goes off on one like that after scoring as if he was recieving loads of stick - seemingly just because he got laughed at when he fell over? What a pussy.

He was getting **** from numpties in the NE corner from at least the "welcome back Dean Marney" thing before kickoff. We could hear it down in E5. No need to come down and have the celebration in front of E4/5 though.

I don't know how anyone can say it was worse than Cort though. He did exactly the same thing as Cort did, only Cort hadn't had any flack prior to it because all the negative welcoming was saved for Green that day.

TBH, Fryatt did celebrate a bit, but not much. Marney more or less ran around the pitch like a 6 year old in a sweet shop, and then just stood, for about a minute, in front of the East Stand with his hands on his ears!

And the idiocy continues. His last 2 years were the 2 premiership years. You know the one we stayed up in, he was an ever present in that side.

Isn't this all a bit sad? Grown men moaning about a goal celebration like a bunch of school kids. Aren't goal celebrations for the kids anyway?

    Nuff said.

****ing hell there's some soft ****es on here. Get over it. We got what we deserved yesterday, nothing. At least we can put it right on Tuesday night, but we'll have to be a lot better to beat Palace.

I heard him getting a bit of stick early in the game and to be honest I thought at first he was justified, when he first went over with his arms raised, I thought that that was ok, but then he turned into a total knob. Over the top really.

I defended him a lot when he played for us, but he was a midfielder without the quality to play in that division. I thought you didn't like those kind of players, you know like Evans?

Of course i like those kind of players, every team needs them. Just Evans isnt that good at it. Marney played like he did for us yesterday in front of two solid CM's, like he did with Ash and the Boat. Suits him, he can use his engine, good finish too. Now can anyone see Mckena or Evans doing that? Cos i cant.

Cairney's back in contention soon. Meyler, TC, Mckenna, Oli, Evans. 5 into one doesnt go, its ridiculous having 3 CM on the bench never mind 4!! Someones leaving at Xmas. Who?

McKenna - I don't think Bruce even picking McKenna yet which is odd.. since I would have him TOP CHOICE

Cairney will defo get a run out as Bruce hasn't seen much of him and apparently he's lost 8 kgs..

    Evans is a scurrier

Oli reminds me of Mr Puffy - the big puff monster in Ghostbusters

Meyler so far doesn't look much more than a journeyman

Oli's a fairy. He needs too much time on the ball.

Bruce apparently really rates Cairney, but who would he go in the team for?

Evans shouldn't have been replaced by Oli IMO. Evans put in some great performances before being dropped.

Meyler looks composed, and I want to see him start before fully evaluating him.

Cairney can do everything Oli can do on the ball, but he's a bit more committed so I'd just use Cairney when we want someone to knock it about and Evans when we need an enforcer. I'd still like someone who can do both though. Cairney might be able to do that one day, he can easily learn to get stuck in a bit more, not sure Evans can learn to be a footballer at this stage though.
