What a difference a year makes. This time last year it was Harry for England... I think it's a great appointment for the short term, he can't do any worse than Hughes!
So on balance most of us seem to be thinking that 'Arry's the best choice under the circs as a short term solution. To the doubters thus far outed, note the link to this thread for your TYSs should things on the pitch or balance sheets end up going pear shaped! Let's hope you're worst fears turn out to be unfounded though eh?
Fantastic post and mirrors my feelings in large. Harry, when it comes to resurrecting our season is perfect. When it comes to transfers I get nervous because he does seem to cast decent players aside. It puts pressure on keeping the infrastructure we've created almost independent of the first team for now and sticking resolutely to the growth of the club as an entity. I don't think Harry is the one to carry the organic growth of the club forward more a case of stepping into the breach for the operations (pure match winning) perspective. In the long term, I'm not sure where this leaves the plan and I doubt TF does if I'm honest. I very much doubt TF has been in a position, despite his pressures and experiences, of having such an immediate situation to resurrect with so few viable candidates that he can't combine both short and long term goals. Similarly, we, as fans, are getting our wishes in the main and have to use that responsibly too because there's no disputing that our collective voice has been heeded.
I dont think hes the best choice but I have a much better feeling now than I did when I heard Hughes was hired. I never liked Hughes and knew he couldnt do the job. I think arry can keep us up but my 1st choice would have been someone else. Especially as he probably will want to start Green and maybe get rid of Taarabt.

I didnt want Hughes but tried to support him on here right up to the Reading game, then my vote switched. I didnt want arry but will support him until the end of Jan, if things are not any better, then sod him too. I confess. I am a doubter. He is indeed overrated and has the potential to be an extremely expensive if not calamitous mistake. He will need to be kept tightly in check by the owners. He has my support however as his predecessors have had. The thread is a gem Brix because it gives both supporters and detractors the chance to say it now and to stick by it. If things go badly and people call for his sacking one week after the January transfer window closes, you will have the hard evidence ready to remind us all of the gushing terms in which he is being proclaimed the saviour. Of course that applies the other way. If he is a riproaring success so much so that some of us begin to talk of a Top Ten finish, you will be able to name and shame those of us who are in the doubtful camp. Not sure why Stan is being targeted for criticism by some on here. "Best in the current circumstances" falls a long way short of being the ideal person for the job. If we had a perfect opportunity to appoint who we wanted safe in the knowledge that the guy wouldn't be judged on the basis of only a few results, it would have to be Roberto Martinez or David Moyes
I should have added that, despite any reservations I may have, I will probably be one of the last to call for his head. That's just the way I am it seems.
He wanted Green for Spurs and also sold Taarabt before. Theres at least a chance of it happening but like you, I hope it doesnt.
Especially if he brings his boots with him!!!! shame HH isn´t still with us, he and SLF could have had ´hanging in the air´ competitions at training!!!
As with the consensus think he's the best choice for short - medium term. Maybe bringing through SLF for the medium to long term being the perfect solution. Curious to the Taraabt issue. Did HR genuinely not rate him. From what I remember seeing HR said he was a genius that he just didn't really know what to do with. Given what we've seen and ATs improvement in the last 18minths would seem like a shrewd and sensible judgement to me.
Would love to see Sir Les manage the club one day, still and always will be* my favourite Q.P.R. player. * Unless we sign C Ronaldo or L Messi.
Remember what I say. I think we will do very well under Harry and we will NOT be relegated. Great news. Dreadful news. I don't think Harry will save us and is just in it for the money and doesn't care about the club. We WILL be relegated. Here's where I am... As I understand it, with the notable exception of Everton in nineteen-ninety-who-gives-a-****, no Premiership team has ever escaped relegation having collected a meagre four points after the first twelve games. This means that the odds are heavily stacked against whosoever is appointed manager of this club, presumably Redknapp. To me, this suggests that we should not necessarily expect miracles, but of course I would be delighted if the Rs survive, particularly if they do so playing the sort of football upon which the proud traditions of this club were built. Frankly, with the exception of some pockets of light, much of the football we've been fed over the past few years - yes, even the promotion season under Warnock - has not been exactly pretty, has it? Pragmatic is probably a kind term for it. Do I welcome the impending appointment of Harry Redknapp? Yes, absolutely. I would strongly recommend people ignore all this 'dodgy geezer' stuff associated with him. As far as I can tell, he has never been convicted of any crime; rather he was recently acquitted of the tax avoidance charges. I am happy to accept this and move on. (Let's not forget that we had El Tel who could wheel and deal with the best of them.) It would not surprise me if the majority of Spurs fans would prefer him back in place of AVB, and I think its good news if the Rs appoint a manager who only 12 months back was the so-called People's Choice for national team manager. SSN were talking earlier about Redknapp's track record of taking over teams in the relegation zone. It was something like this: Saints: played 16, points 12, position 18th, outcome relegated Portsmouth; played 15, points 10, position 18th, outcome survived Spurs: played 8, points 2, position 20th, outcome survived (and then some) In summary: This is a big 'ask' of anyone. History suggests the club is more likely to go down. Redknapp is as good as any available candidate to give us a fighting chance of beating the odds. I would go so far as to say that, should his appointment be confirmed, I am delighted.
