Rules: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/143227-brb-prediction-league-rules-2012-13 ........................................................ brb takes a very brief look back at his thoughts after our last meeting at the Crown Ground: Accrington Stanley 4-3 Gillingham On Saturday 28th January 2012, Gillingham completed their January League Two fixture listing at the Crown Ground. After what was a promising start to the New Year with a 1-0 home win against Aldershot on the 2nd January, eventually turned in to a month of gloom for the Gills, finishing with a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Accrington Stanley on Saturday. Andy Hessenthaler’s team only picked up a total of three points out of a possible 12 in January, the worst monthly tally of points so far this season. The Gills started the season back in August by taking ten points, followed by seven points in each subsequent month. The gloom started to unfold after Gillingham’s 1-3 cup exit to Stoke City on the 7th January and have failed to find their earlier form since, which was followed with a 2-0 defeat away at Shrewsbury, followed by conceding four goals at home to Wimbledon, to end with conceding the earlier mentioned four goals at Accrington. Despite reported strong words from Andy Hessenthaler after the Wimbledon game, did I believe things were going to change? No, not really. I have watched enough games this season, to know something is deeply wrong. Why do we continue to put in different performances in the two halves, why does it take four goals and a half-time talk to turn things around to anything resembling respectability, why did we follow up one poor performance with another this Month? Well obviously the team talk and DVD did not resolve anything last Sunday or whatever day the team got together. A goodwill gesture as it is of refunded travel costs will also not resolve the issues but at least goes to show that Hessy feels the fans pain. I saw a lot of criticism of Matt Lawrence after the Wimbledon game, to an extent that I felt some of it was unfair. However, one game on, no Matt Lawrence and we are still leaking goals. So who do we blame this week? The Gills keeper Ross Flitney was substituted at half-time and replaced by the young man from Argentina Paulo Gazzaniga. The player I feel most sorry for is the new signing Gavin Tomlin; he scored two goals against Wimbledon and another two against Accrington. A player that has a now netted four times in three games, what a start for any player but he is not getting the deserved headlines due to the overall team failings. So automatic promotion now seems a distant past thought, 11 points off third place, having played one game more. Even if one of those top three teams falter you have Shrewsbury and Swindon in the chasing pack. Mmmm heart says a Gills win.....Head says a tough hard ground out 0-0 against a team who are not renowned for their finesse....so that's what I'm going for. Prove me wrong Gills!

I want to change mine a bit Accrington 1-2 Gillingham (Beattie- Burton, Weston) 2 old players scoring in one match.
My first match this season (Gills anyhow). Surprise, surprise it's been raining a bit up here, and with no real improvement forecast in the next couple of days I reckon the pitch will be on the heavy side. Plenty of opportunity for mistakes, and though the head points to a home win Accrington 2 - 2 Gillingham (Weston, Kedwell) Bring your wellies lads and lasses. Also just a reminder that the away terracing is open (as in no cover).
After Tuesday nights poor performance and the casual decline in our ability to control games I am sorry to say that I think we will be defeated I hope I am wrong though Accrington 3 Gillingham 0
