Lads, I'm driving to Manchester tomorrow, spending the day in the city centre. I've been trying to find out about good places to park, either big car parks or a park and ride, but the Manc Council website is ****e. Anyone got any experience of Manchester and could advise? I'll be travelling to the Manchester Academy in the evening. I would appreciate any info. Many thanks. Party!
The Academy on Oxford Road? I'm not sure there are many car parks near the Academy as it's in Student area. Most of the car parks in Manchester are NCP and very expensive, but they are secure. There are car parks on Portland Street, Chorlton Street and around the hotels. They are approx 15-20 min walk to the Academy, or you can get on the 42, 142, 43 or 143 buses down Oxford Road
I've got the car park for the academy, but I won't be going there till the evening, that one was easy. I'm spending the day in the city centre though, so wondered if anyone knew of best parking for that? I'd then go on my merry way to the academy later on.
Whatever you do, do NOT park at Kendall's, unless you want to take out a mortgage. You can park at the Arndale and then you're right in the centre. Other than that, the G-Mex (as it used to be called), Great Northern (again pricey). I tend to park just outside the centre and walk in as the centre does get snarled up, particularly around Deansgate. I park at New Bridge Street next to Salford station, and walk 5 minutes to Deansgate, or its right behind Spinningfields.
APM, that is much appreciated. I will set the Sat Nav to New Bridge Street and take it from there. Spent what seemed like an eternity driving through Manc city centre trying to find a car park once, I don't want to do it again! Cheers
I dont like the sound of this at all Party. You Xmas shopping?? Look mate save ya self the trouble of going all that way. Boyes's's pre Xmas sale starts soon, cant say too much yet its confidential. Plus there's the new Poundland in town. Job done. I really dont want to contemplate the fact you maybe accidentally wandering into Canal St by *accident*. Say it aint so mate??
I'm going primarily because I'm seeing a gig at the academy. My mate suggested going early on and checking out Manc. I'm not at work tomorrow, so said yeah. It turns out the logistics aren't as straight forward as you'd think.
...sorry I nearly gave you a bum steer there (no Canal Street pun intended - possibly). It's New Bailey Street, not New Bridge Street. Apologies. It's next to Salford Central station anyhow
Arndale is probably best but there are several NCP car parks. Big one at the Coach Station just along Portland Street from Picadily Gardens. Excellent free metro minibus service offering 3 circular routes around the City centre save on shoe leather as well.
I work at Manchester University. I would park in the Cecil Street car park, very near the Academy (behind the academy car park), £5 for the day, get a bus along Oxford Road into Manchester during the day, then a bus back from Picadilly bus station to the academy (they run every 5 minutes or so), watch the gig and your car is 200 yards away, it also safe as its on cameras
You could probably park at the Trafford Centre, I don't have a clue if it's near the city centre but you could always get a bus. Don't count me on this but there's an overflow car park(I think) near the Habitat store(may not be there now) and I don't recall paying. But no harm in trying.
I don't think I've ever landed at Man Airport when it's not raining, the joys of late night easyjet flights.
There are a couple of car park opposite the men arena entrance to there Car park. 3 quid all day. Can't remember the name of the street but easy to find when you find the men arena.
We normally use a carpark near the metro station near the Printworks opposite the Crowne Plaza on Shudehill. Easy walking distance from the Arndale/Printworks/Manchester Victoria etc - fairly easy from the motorway.
There's a car park off Great Jackson St that's 3 quid for the day. Right at the bottom of Deansgate. At the other end of town, there's a car park off Sheffield Street behind Piccadilly that charges a similar price. Both easy to drive to / from and both 5 mins walk from city centre. If you park at Great Jackson St, look out for a car furnished with a HCAFC sticker!
Avoid the Car Park next to Spinningfields whatever you do! I once parked there for a 1.5 hour interview and it cost nearly £10, (it's pay on exit with no obvious display of tariffs).
Good thread this , I'm going to Manc next week and was wondering the same, love it when a plan comes together
