Sell Friedel, get Robbo in as competition/back up for Lloris was the first thing I thought when I saw Friedel to Blackburn too.

Loved Robbo and if he had stayed until Harry arrived then I'm sure he would still be our number one and probably England's number one as well.

Yeah Robbo was brilliant, he had a few Gomes-esque moments but on the whole was a great keeper (and still is). Needed someone like Harry to boost his confidence and "stick an arm round him", Ramos just f*cked him off at the earliest opportunity.

Given he won't accept a wage cut from £50k p/w, even though Ter Stegen, Gomes and Butland are ahead of him...

Wait a minute, I just confused FM and reality again didn't I?

Robbo still has the same traits, easily beaten from distance, and likes to kick upfield too much, (at times I think he just likes to show off how far he can kick it!) doesn't roll out to defenders enough keeping possession. Hoofball keeper, just my opinion.

For a while Robbo was brilliant, and like Brad a top bloke to boot.

but in the end it was right for Robbo to go. Poor on crosses, and the amount of long rangers he let in !!!!! It seemed like his feet was stuck in cement half the time.

For a while Gomes was a massive upgrade, then he went AWOL.

I think we have to go back to Jennings for a really top class keeper who performed brilliantly for years - and yep we sold him to Arsenal.

Clemence has a claim, but he was at the tail end of his career, and started to lose it after a brillinat start.

Even during his purple patch, the horror that was the Barca goal haunts me still.

Spurcat mentioned the reasons behind Robinson's demise a while ago.
He got lazy in training and Segers, our coach at the time, allowed him to do so.
Had to stop the car on Tottenham High Road on his way out of the club as he was crying too much, apparently. :emoticon-0106-cryin

There's been an ongoing rumour about Friedel joining Southampton, so maybe this has some legs?
It would also explain why we've been watching other keepers with such frequency.
I'd still like to see Gomes loaned out and there's been a rumour that he might be joining Jenas at Forest.
With Cudicini in the wings and a host of young keepers, I guess it's a possibility.

Wouldn't mind tempting the apparently skint Birmingham with a bid for Butland in January.
The perma-crocked Craig Gordon's still not got a club, either...

Surprising to hear he got lazy, he struck me as the type who'd stay late in order to improve his game.

Southampton just got Boruc (though looks like he's in deep sh*t with them already) so I'd be surprised if they got another keeper unless they sold one of their current ones.

I hope we get rid of Gomes, whether that be a loan for the time being and save some on wages or just sell him for what we can get.

Gordon's a great shout as back up/ competition, WHEN he's not injured he's a really good keeper.
Butland, I'd have taken him in an instant if we hadn't have got Lloris but seeing as Hugo has got years ahead of him (hopefully with us) I think Butland joining us wouldn't be the best move for the lad. He's getting regular games with Brum and at his age, that's vital.

didn't robbo have some personal problems before leaving us. Was his wife ill? I thought selling him was harsh tbh.

<laugh>...nah, go on, let me have it!

Only just seen PNP's post saying you'd enlightened us on Robbo, ie, lazy, must have missed that, I had noticed he was carrying some extra pounds in his last year or two with us.

I suspect it's the goalkeepers union that prevented a reply <laugh>

For your information, it's called a long pass, NOT "hoofball". Consider yourself sunshined <laugh>.
