One of the reasons i like this place, by law you are allowed to have items such as this at your disposal for self defence. Unless the police can prove you have used it for any other purpose they will not bother you. Having said that, crime here is not as it is in the UK and people generally do not go round hitting other people (even when drunk) so the law for now, remains sensible when it comes to protecting yourself and property You are allowed, by Thai law, to shoot to kill an intruder - even in the back if he's running away from the scene. If someone you do not know comes on to your land and you tell them to get off and they don't - you can shoot to kill them! Even if they do not understand the language they are being told to get off in! It acts as a wonderful deterant for would be burglars
I remember Peter Andre being fined for poking Jordan. Apparently he had an offensive person on his weapon.
There are criminal gangs who target sportspeople and celebrities not your typical blackmail plots, but people who'll gladly come over and attack you for your watch, jewellery, car and wallet etc, also a lot of the time it happens in perceived 'High End' nightclubs with security which are safer then your average Ocena/Cindarella Rockafella's type place full of ****ers dancing to top40 hits.
why did the police stop him? probably for being black in a smart car, and having stopped him wrongly, they had to find a reason, and they did.
My thoughts exactly! When I was in the Met. forty years ago racism in the ranks was quite common and open, I firmly believe there is still a strong element of racism, though these days it's kept well hidden! I don't know how much the law has changed since my spell as a copper, but back then, to charge someone with possessing an offensive weapon if it was anything other than a gun, or a flick-knife, you had to prove that they INTENDED to use it as an offensive weapon! That proof of intent is, or was then, very difficult to prove!
am i going mad? isn't £1000 a ridiculous amount of money to fine him for this 'offence'? i'd have expected a £50 and a slap on the wrists!!
Depends what the item/offensive weapon is...proof of intent is only necessary if the item may have an "innocent" use, (such as a hammer being carried to work by a carpenter), and the law does not deem items such as police style batons to have an innocent use by a member of the public.
Should be known as PC Bassong from now on. Promising idea for some supportive chanting at the next home game?
Victim surcharge? What ****ing victim? If someone plays cricket/rounders etc with the kids and leave the set in the boot of the car are they going to be prosecuted? Probably If i'm driving to go on holiday and I get stopped and they find my swiss army knife on me I presume i'll get done for that (we go camping so it is a necessity) This country is a joke
Apparently a percentage of the fine is paid to the Criminal injuries compensation board, the department who cough up to victims of violent crimes. I got badly beaten up in my (ex) off licence late one night and required facial reconstruction (they didn't even manage to improve on the original ) and there is a sliding scale of compensation, depending on what damage occurs during the attack/accident. Saves the taxpayer coughing up the entire sum awarded
