According to the telegraph. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...anuary-as-he-targets-Hulls-James-Chester.html I think we all expected there'd be rumours for a January move, it's just that its a tad early.
Does anyone remember if there was a sell-on mentioned as included? Id imagine Utd wouldve pushed for one. There would literally be no point in selling for less than £3m. I know some fans would say £5m+ but £3m would no doubt make us think. Anyway, he can do a lot better than Villa - I can see him at Everton to be honest.
This rumour is probably put out by Chester agent, to get the best deal possible for him. Chester already said on Tiger player that negotiations were starting about a new contract with us, and that he was waiting for his mum and dad to come back off holiday, who is discusses these matters with, and then see where that takes him.
If we are serious about the PL then we have to hang on to Chester - £3M is a distraction from our real purpose.
I would be very disappointed if we lost Chester, particularly as we have meant to have been offering him a new deal for some time now
Villa are a far bigger club than City so long term it could be seen by Chester as an attractive move, but short term he could be playing in the EPL faster by staying with us as there's a good chance we'll be passing them on the way up.
I don't think he will leave in January, i think he will wait for the season to finish and weigh up his options
Like other people say - money talks! But yes I agree Chester probably wants to stay but he also wants to play in the premier league so may stall on signing a new deal.
Bruce is going to have his work cut out - half the squads' contracts are expiring at the end of the current season, and then there are plenty of key players expiring at the end of next: 2013 - Rosenior, Faye, Dawson, McShane, Cooper, Olofinjana, Cairney McKenna, Simpson. 2014 - Jakupovic, Dudgeon, Chester, Bruce, Hobbs, Evans, Aluko, Koren, McLean, Fryatt. In fact, as far as I know, there's only Quinn and Proschwitz whose contracts aren't expiring in the next 20 months, that's madness. We're looking worse than Arsenal.
Slow news day then. No surprise that the Chester rumours have started but i suspect thats all they will be. Aston Villa dont have any money for starters as Randy Lerner keeps the cheque book in his coat. At this moment Paul Lambert should worry about keeping his job more than who he can sign in Jan. By then Villa could be well adrift of safety looking at the next few fixtures. Looking at Villa they need players like Rooney and RVP. Now that wont happen either.
Maybe Nigel Pearson had a word. But when you look at the PL money on offer from next season I would not accept £10m for Chester. I would rather lose him for nowt in 2014 and be back in the PL.
Considering Kompany cost £5mil, I think £10mil for Chester would be a fairly good deal, I know Assem would.
That article says Villa spent 20 odd million in the summer, he doesn't seem to have spent it very well. Tbh I thought they'd spent hardly anything, I was wrong. Matthew Lowton (Sheffield United, £3m), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord, undisclosed), Karim El Ahmadi (Feyenoord, undisclosed) Brett Holman (AZ Alkmaar, free), Jordan Bowery (Chesterfield, undisclosed), Joe Bennett (Middlesbrough, £2.5m), Ashley Westwood (Crewe, undisclosed), Christian Benteke (Genk, £7m)
