The three that got away OT

Was just thinking about certain players that l always thought would end up playing for The Toon, but somehow never did.
That got me to wondering what players you lads and lasses thought would wear the Black and White stripes, but somehow it never came to be.
So the task is to name 3 players you always thought you'd see, but never did...

2. Dimitar Berbatov
3. Steve Sidwell

Carrick, thought he'd be a certainty.

John Terry, used to know someone connected at Chelsea, and when we had Bobby in charge he was adamant that a deal was all but done for him, think Terry would have been around 20-21 at the time.

Sheringham, always thought at least one manager would try and get him alongside Shearer!

Don't misunderstand the thread, the above three are players l often thought might play for us, not necessarily players l wanted to see doing it.

 

Enjoy it while you can. Other teams may not do you as many favours as Fulham did.

 

I remember when we signed woodgate it was between him and terry. Then we would sign terry in the summer after signing woodgate in January. Then abromovich came and the rest is history. If we'd have had those 2 we'd have been a force. Does my head in how much luck goes against us there

 

Yeah apparently Terry was aware of our interest and was keen for the deal to happen as at the time we were much more of a force than them. It's okay though , I just console myself that two years later we signed Boumsong and Marcellino was getting close to fitness so all was not lost

 

I wasn't aware that we had come close to signing John Terry, it really makes you wonder how things would have panned out for both him and us if things had gone differently.

 

Imagine if we'd got Terry and Rooney <jizz>! We were not far off getting Rooney, Bobby confirms this in his last book (best book I've ever read by the way)!

 

Thought at one time we were supposed to be interested in Mark Hughes but it didn't get off the ground.

 

Modric

 

The name was mentioned, I'm not sure if any official enquiries were made though.

 

If only it hadn't been for that damned scratched finger!

 

Rafael van der Vaart was mentioned but I think it was only wishfull thinking on the fans part, as with Modric.

 

Robbie Keane. I've lost count of the number of times we were linked with him. Arshavin seemed very close at one stage as did Modric.

 

Gareth Bale name comes to mind.

 

I think Keane was keen to come too!

 

I always thought we might have seen Yossi Benayoun at Newcastle

 

He seems to have been everywhere else. Good squad player.
