I see no reason at all why the mention of Heysel should in any way upset Liverpool fans. It's also ridiculous to suggest is should and to throw it into the same category as the team of an opposing set of supporters being wiped out in a plane crash.
Or indeed in the same category as Hillsborough.

Depends on the context of course but a 'reference' to Heysel is surely not ban worthy.

 

Maybe because not everyone was there or involved? Maybe because there may be people on here that lost a friend a family member or more? Its about respecting the dead. It is irrelevant how the disaster came about!

No Liverpool fans were killled. None. Everyone knows what happened so I won't bother to describe it but it really baffles me how recently Heysel has fallen into the category of a disaster that happened to Liverpool.

I don't condone using disasters to get at opposition fans and as a way of getting kicks but Heysel happened and there's no reason at all why its mere mention should be banned.

 

I didn't say a 'mere mention' should be a ban. People should be able to discuss Heysel, Hillsborough, Munich, etc if they wish (like we're sort of doing now). People that use any disaster to try and score points or get at other posters deserve a zero tolerance approach.

I don't come on here to see those sorts of comments, I'm sure you and others are the same.

Edit: An acceptance of one but not another creates an unclear line. Zero tolerance on all is simple and clear. Acceptance of one that causes bad blood leads to the mention of others that are not acceptable too.

I have my opinion on 'categorising' (for want of a better word) the three incidents and see it that through the anals of time Heysel has swung round to as it if happened to Liverpool fans. I don't believe it did, which is why I don't feel it should sit with the other two but maybe that's for another day and out of the prying eyes of those who can't actually handle genuine debate. This is the banter thread after all.

I mentioned this on a thread on our board though, what pisses me off about here is how the dickhead is just welcomed back within weeks under a different name, pandered to and indulged, when the reason he was banned in the first place was Munich etc.

If he's ban worthy then he shouldn't be allowed back on, simple as. Otherwise it is just pointless banning the ****er.

I think you'll find the majority of us agree that he should be permanently banned.
I agree with you on this, but I think you're being a little disingenuous about Heysel references. We have had to endure both implied and overt suggestions that all LFC fans are somehow collectively responsible for Heysel, and worse, that Hillsborough was some sort of divine retribution. This is clearly malicious bollocks, but as it's such a sensitive issue it's best avoided completely, especially somewhere like here, where balanced debate is almost non existent.
By rights we should be able to have meaningful discussions about the disasters, and about racism, or any other controversial topic that affects us.
Sadly, whatever you say, there's always some dense prick that'll twist your words in order to have a go.

The disaster references from both sides of the fence have no place as 'banter'.

It's long overdue that the history of both sets of fans doing so, is buried - for good.

We have a responsibility here, as it carries over to the next generation of younger fans & then continues - rinse & repeat.
