Well said SOS, though as I said elsewhere for me we definitely needed a new keeper in the summer. At 41 we couldn't rely on Brad, and he keeps on showing us why, unfortunately, this season, but still AVB persists with his stupid policy over Hugo.
But Spurf if facts aren't available (which more often they're not) then surely we're going to base posts on opinions/ belief and analysis... How else can we debate and share ideas? If all our posts had to be based on facts and therefore needed to be more reserved on opinons etc, I'm sure the forum would be dead. The whole reason this particular Spurs board is great is because we have good banter, strong opinions and a love for THFC, therefore building a platform for us all to debate and communicate on particular topics whether based on fact or opinion. I've said my piece on the Friedel situation, not really much else I can add that I've not said already. Your welcome to cast an opinion about myself and my job, everyone can if they like, you're right it's boring and in a sense I actually hate it but for a 22 year old, it pays a bloody good wage and for that reason I'm happy to stay here at least for the time being. Pays for the rent, 19 home games a season, a good few away games, beers D), the occassional green plant (), allows me to lend money to friends and family without feeling the hit myself and go on 3 or 4 holidays a year. Boring as f*ck but it allows me to be extremely happy outside of it, I'd eat sh*t (literally probably would) if the money was good! . Although I was pro-Harry (and I'll always admit that, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't have Harry back in a heartbeat) I was willing to give AVB a chance. Lets not remember, without coming across big headed, I broke the news to many of you here first on AVB becoming Spurs manager (sound like a SSN presenter) as I got a tip off from my mate who had contact with someone inside Spurs (not a clue who, though AVB wasn't the only thing I passed info on). When I started the thread I said that although I was surprised and perhaps a little disappointed at him being the new boss, I'd give him a chance. Unfortunately, he's just failed to impress me from the start and seems as if he's not learnt much in his Chelsea experience.
There is a lot of truth in what you say and yes if we did not have posters like yourself expressing opinions on belief in the absence of facts then it would be pretty dry. However when you do that people like me will challenge because I don't express opinions based on belief. So keep posting I appreciate the ammunition. You keep saying you will give AVB a chance but at the same time slag him off at every opportunity. It begins to look like you are poised for his failure waiting to cash in and say I told you so. If and when you do I will not be impressed. The company you keep often colours others judgement and in your case that applies.
Yeah understand where you're coming from in terms of Brad being 41 but his performances last season were that of someone with another decade in the tank. So a keeper wasn't top of my priorities. A CB, CM & ST were. But the signing of Lloris changed it all for me. As I rate Hugo better I'd start him, as harsh as it maybe on Brad my interests are for the best of the team. It'd be the same if we signed Cristiano Ronaldo (never happening of course!)... Would people really play Lennon over him just because Lennon was in good form?
I don't think it'd be pretty dry, I think it'd would be extremely dead. I've rarely seen posters use facts more so than opinions on this forum bar the brilliant match day threads THFC6061 and Boss provide us with. It's all well and good saying I provide the ammunition but your posts aren't debating, more disregarding others opinions instead of challenging them with any valid reasoning bar the fact of saying "you have no facts". I've tried giving AVB a chance but how can I put faith in a manager when he's constantly making decisions that I think aren't helping the team? Some say he's done great with the squad we have fit but I'd disagree, I think certain decisions he's made in regards to selections/ formations/ substitutions have potentially cost us points. It's nothing to do with I told you so, I've never said "I'm right, you're all wrong" just because I don't rate AVB, I've just expressed my opinions as to why I don't think he's suited to us and why I've not been impressed. I'd rather he turn things around, take Spurs up the table and does brilliant for us... I'd be happy as the team would be doing well even if it meant swallowing a bit of pride by admitting I was wrong about the guy but I just don't think that'll happen. I'm not sure what sort of company I keep, I'm not biased towards or against anyone here, if I agree or disagree with a point I'll say so, regardless of the poster. If you think I keep company that's your opinion and there was me thinking you based everything on facts.
If I disregarded your opinion I would not be debating with you, would I. No valid reason? I think casting doubt on the judgment of Friedel without any facts merits somebody pointing that out. I think that is a valid reason. If you express an opinion on his goalkeeping that's fair enough but to make comments on his private life without proper information (facts) then it needs to be challenged. Opinions without facts are pretty worthless and nothing more than an exercise in semantics, but you are still entitled to express them of course. Just don't expect to get away with it.
I think Brad < Gomes, never mind Lloris. But Harry and AVB obviously know much more about it than me....
