RB, interesting article. I knew nothing about the man before reading this. It kinda ties in to what NL said recently, that in the modern game you want good athletes who can play football. McCourt is a case in point here. If his fitness levels were better I'm sure NL would play him more.
Thatsnoexcuse. Jim McG works on players minds without exactly imposing rules, players adopt new lifestyles and new emphasis on training. An example of what he would do differently and what he did with Donegal, he would bring them to a beach at first light the morning after a tough game. After a fairly light training session he would bring them all into the sea for prolonged exercise. Player were ready and able for full training the following evening. He would have no "european hangover" and the players are always looking forward to the training. Paddy would be a different Paddy or there would be no Paddy
Jim McGuinness does not impose rules. Jim McGuinness allows the players to create their own discipline. He sews the seeds in their minds of what is expected of them without instructing to them how or what they have to do. If he thinks it is necessary a few training sessions very early in the morning for individuals or collectively, often changes wandering discipline minds. I don't know how much you actually know about McGuinness, I suspect it is very little but sure bluff away you may impress some with your copying. I think both of us should be so pleased with Celtic signing a man of the ability of Jim McGuinness ability, knowing what he is likely to achieve at Celtic, that we shouldn't be having a petty argument about him and what he has done.
Supersevco. Hows about a little wager? When I prove beyond any shadow of doubt that Jim McGuinness imposes rules, you will take a sabbatical from this site for one month. Deal?
McGuinness: Bhoys take a leaf out of Donegal's book Donegal manager Jim McGuinnessJim McGuinness has compared Celtic's achievement in reaching the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League to Donegal's All-Ireland winning journey. The Sam Maguire Cup winning boss - who started his new job as performance analyst with the Scottish soccer giants two weeks ago - revelled in last night's 2-1 win over Spartak Moscow that booked Celtic's place in the knock-out stages. "The pressure was on tonight, they came through the match and I suppose in relation to our (Donegal) own journey there are a couple of similarities," McGuinness is quoted as saying in the Herald. "A lot of people had Celtic written off at the start of the season, that they wouldn't be in the group stages let alone the last 16. "It's been a great journey for them, I see how hard they work in training. They are a very honest group of lads and have delivered for the club. "Who knows what the draw will bring and that's part of the excitement." There were scenes of unbridalled joy at Celtic Park when news of Benfica's draw with Barcelona filtered through. McGuinness praised the players for their mental approach to the tie. "During the build up it was emphasised that the players had to look after their own match and be happy with their result. "They did that regardless of what was happening in Barcelona." Este hombre, Jim McGuinness debe de haber algún cachorro - been with the Celts for just two weeks and already we've qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League ...
http://www.rte.ie/player/gb/show/10100008/ Even if you don't like GAA this show might tell you a bit about the man
I wont do this every time Donegal have a match, but there is an interesting Lennon connection going on this evening. Donegal are playing Kildare in the national league. The Armagh minor captain when Lennon played for them was Kieran "Geezer" McGeeney. He is now manager of Kildare. McGuinness is the manager of Donegal. The game doesn't indicate anything particularly much for the year ahead, but it might interest some....maybe. If not. No biggie. The big match is on later on when Dublin face the biggest and best GAA county in the country. http://www.rojadirecta.me/goto/hippiesharing.com/stream2.html
How'd they go? Cork got hammered. I meant biggest in terms of geographical area and Best in terms of Senior All Irelands. 122 and counting WATP
Beat easily enough Armagh were, useless ****s! Some nice pics of croker on twitter tonight? You see them?
I didn't want to interfere with robot Hun and his keeping everybody up to Date with Jim McG, but I have to say for a man who is the best copier I know It was most disappointing that he didn't inform everybody about the interesting scenario that occurred during the first team's winter break. The Donegal team and Management were in Dubai on holiday as a reward for winning the All Ireland . The Celtic under 20's were there too. What isn't known was the decision to go to Dubai Made by Donegal first and the Celtic squad brought to the same place , so that Jim Could work with them. Or was the Celtic under 20's always going there and Donegal Went to the same place so that Jim could have some quality holiday time ? Did Celtic contribute to the Donegal holiday fund as a gesture towards allowing Jim to Join up part time with Celtic at such short notice?
I have come across more interesting news , about one of our Jim's young Prodigies Patrick Mc Brearty, at nineteen he was the youngest player on the Donegal team that won the All Ireland last year. Patrick and another young man from Donegal both represented the R O I at under 15 level. They both went to Celtic at the one time on trial. I think, if my memory serves me right Celtic offered P. McBrearty an opportunity of joining but he decided to continue with the GAA. The other lad from Donegal was Carl McHugh, the Bradford centre defender, who will be playing in the League Cup final at Wembley.
Strange. I read that like he is on his way out of Celtic or he is on his way out of Donegal at the end of this campaign. http://www.gaa.ie/gaa-news-and-vide...30919-mcguinness-grateful-for-celtic-support/ As Donegal prepare for Sunday week's Ulster Football Championship final, their third in a row, manager Jim McGuinness has been given the green light from employers Celtic FC to focus his attentions for now on managing his county. "Neil has played the game himself and he appreciates what we’re trying to do and where we've come from" - Jim McGuinness. "I see Jim every day when he's here. He sits basically just outside my office. I had a good long chat with him when I came back from Portugal," Celtic manager Neil Lennon said earlier this week. "Basically, I'd like Jim to be a little less involved because I'd like him to concentrate on Donegal for the time being." Since taking on a role as Performance Consultant with Celtic late last year, McGuinness has had a busy time balancing the role with his work with Donegal. But as he explained at a media event yesterday in Clones ahead of the Ulster final against Monaghan, a big advantage for him in terms of managing both jobs has been the Irish connection at Celtic. “It’s fantastic, obviously. Neil has played the game himself and he appreciates what we’re trying to do and where we’ve come from and now the chance we have to win three-in-a-row,” said McGuinness. “He knows what playing in a big game for his county means and it’s a great support to have. Everyone else at the club has been very supportive, asking what they can do to facilitate this and make it work. “You’ve got the owner, Mr Desmond, an Irishman and the manager is an Irishman so that helps. They were both reared on GAA so they would be sympathetic to how we work and that has been a big, big plus for me." That understanding from the likes of Lennon and Desmond means McGuinness can now focus his energies and attentions on Donegal for the rest of the summer, as the championship enters its decisive phase. The next big date is July 21 in the Ulster final against Monaghan, and Donegal fans will be hoping the journey continues until September, just like it did last season. Typically, McGuinness says his attention for now is focused only on Monaghan, and that despite going to see other All-Ireland contenders in action recently, he will not deviate from the line of thinking that says 'take one game at a time.' “It’s fascinating going to the games and watching the other teams to see what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. But they aren’t really on our radar until they are our immediate opposition," he said.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/northern-ireland/23570725 Jim McGuinness non-committal on his future with Donegal. Donegal got a monumental gaping today meaning Jim can get back to his role with Sellick. His Mrs is about to have twins, kids No 4-5. Sticking wi the hupes might be his best option.
