we may well play one up front (at present), but unless i'm missing something, jackson and morrison haven't scored this season in the league. to me that's a worry and agree with ILD here. i also agree let's not forget about harry kane - he needs to be given a shot, and assuming he's back soon, we'll need him for sure over the busy Xmas period - 7 games in Dec and also News Years Day
i really don't think he has goals in him. his overall record is very poor and all gooners i know would happily give him a free transfer, such is his lack of effort. there is obviously good reasons why he never starts games... can anyone see him dropping from 50k a week to 20k a week? we could do a lot better for our money
I disagree The Premier League deal is massive. I didn't say we could compete with the bigger Premiership sides but I do think we will be able to compete with those of our standing and higher across the pond. Looking at the attendance leagues (average) French Leagues our attendances would be fifth Spain 9/10th Italy 7th ahead of Sampdoria and Fiorentina and only fractionally behind Lazio Germany 14th but I understand there prices are very low Dutch 5th So with that in mind and a massive pay deal we should be able to compete very favourably with all those leagues mentioned, particularly as we play more games. I would love to see where we stood in terms of turnover throughout Europe before and after this deal.
there is no doubt our situation, should we stay up, will improve, but we will still be relative paupers in this league.
9 goals in 11 games guys, it's not brilliant, and Holty's got a 3rd of them, we need more goals from others in the team!!!!
the main thing is getting goals from other areas. we did that last season - pilks got 8 if i remember correctly. with one up front it is imperative that the midfield chip in with a few goals. we are still creating chances, just need to be more clinical. if a new striker adds more goals than holt does then that's obviously great but we shouldn't be solely reliant on our forwards to bag the goals
Totally agree - and with Supers post. Pilks had a good chance against Stoke and hit it straight at the keeper. Would like to see CH start with E Bennett instead of Pilks, as he hasn't looked too sharp recently.
this is a good point. it's all very well to say we haven't scored many, but if we are set up with 1 up front and chances are falling to midfielders then they need converting. don't want to highlight anyone in particular but snoddy has had a few chances recently and not converted them. we've scored the second least in the league - only sunderland have scored less.
Chamakh scored plenty of goals for Bordeaux, including Champions League. When he first went to Arsenal, he scored pretty quickly and looked like a decent player - has since lost his form and/or confidence. I think he'd do ok with a run of games but I don't think we'll move for him personally, would think he's on a few £'s...and have seen a lot linking him with a return to France. Lets be honest, he'd probably be out most technically gifted striker.
I don't disagree with that but if we play Holt on his own up front they have got to come from Wes and the midfield. The point I was making was that we already have Holt, Morison and Kane who can play on their own up top - do we need another? If we sell Morison then surely we should be looking to the future for a replacement and not spend money we can't afford on an established striker. If we change our formation then it's bye bye Wes and who can we play alongside Holt? Jackson, Kane and even possibly Morison can do it but I really cannot see us going 4-4-2. All in all, with the inflated price of strikers in Jan I don't think that a panic buy is wise although I would agree that I am placing expectation on Kane.
I only hope that Kane doesn't turn into another Vaughan, a nearly man who looked fantastic on paper, but was constantly crocked. It is too early to say, but I think we are all putting a lot of expectation on him. Still, Ch has been proven right with his other summer acquisitions, I have faith he will turn into the second striker we need
The Spurs fans have a very high opinion of Harry Kane and expect him to be big for them in a year or two, I tend to agree. I've seen him play in their reserve team, he seems to know where the goal is, but he needs time to gel in with our squad. My only concern is he is very similar to Morison in his positioning, but, quite a bit quicker.
