Newcastle are interested in the signature of Marseille striker Loic Remy. The move could see Sylvain Marveaux join the French side as part of the deal between the two clubs.

Newcastle were linked with the Frenchman throughout the summer, with various reports saying that the Toon had a bid rejected for Remy. According to French press, Alan Pardew is keen to try and get the player to come to Tyneside once more.

It has been indicated that Marseille would be willing to let the player go but would not accept anything less than €12m. Newcastle are thought to be offering Marveaux as part of the deal.

The midfielder has failed to make much of an impression since joining the Premier League from Rennes in 2011. It’s believed that the 26-year-old would be willing to consider a move back to his home country.

Signing a striker in January seems like a realistic prospect for Newcastle, with the possibility of Shola Ameobi taking part in the African Cup of Nations and Papiss Cisse yet to discover his goal scoring form.

Is Remy a good choice? He has certainly proved to be a prolific goalscorer in Ligue 1 – scoring 27 times in 60 appearance for Marseille. He also has 17 international caps for France.

This deal seems a lot more realistic than the other rumours that have been flying around as of late. Marveaux has struggled since joining Newcastle, and Mike Ashley would certainly prefer to get someone off the wage bill if he’s going to bring another player in.

I will need about 68 boxes of cleanex if this deal comes off.

£8/9 + Marv would be a good deal. It would give Marv a chance elsewhere, rid us of his 50k a week wages, and get us a great striker.

Would be a good deal for me. Marveaux just fails to convince this league is for him and Remy would bring some pace and a different option.

Obviously we all want a centre back first and foremost, but it would be unlikely to hinder that unless they've lost their marbles.

Isn't his contract expiring in the summer or something? So hopefully we can get him for "cheap" (will still be expensive though I reckon).

Remy, Sissoko and Debuchy would be an incredible January - never works out the way you want it though does it with this club!

Love those 3 but I'd honestly sacrifice all three for one quality centre back who is good with the ball. I think it will make a massive difference to the squad.

This would be better than pulling off the signing of Cisse. A front 4 of Ba, Cisse, Remy and Shola? Which team would have better? Swap Shola for Carroll and we're dancin'...lol

But CB and RB needs sorting first, dare I say. I'd prefer us to bring in that Serbian lad, Debuchy first then Remy to cap it all off.

If we get those three I'll post a picture of Tash hog ties with a red, royal Gala apple in his mouth.

Is Samba fed up of being racially abused yet? He'd be a class signing along with Remy, Cissokho and Debuchy but probably at the expense of one of our stars.

He would be quality but I imagine we'd struggle with his monsterous wages! 28 too.

Completely agree, would be nice if the CB had a bit of pace about him too!

One of the most profound comments I've seen on here in ages. Whatever we speculate, it never seems to be the way things turn out. No point speculating at all methinks.
