The fgb delibaretly getting us beat 1-5, chopra delibreately missing the open goal and having geordies playing for us.
as a point of correction that should be FDGB surely? to leave out the word 'Devious' implies you think he is normal and quite an honourable guy.
1] Relegation to the third 2] Losing the play-off final to Charlton on pens 3] Losing the play-off final to Swindon 4] Being utterly gash in the 1985 LC Final 5] Relegation on 15 points
Cant agree with point 2 Sid. I came away from Wembley numb, dazed and bloody shattered but above all. Proud as punch. How we could do with a few of today's lot putting in 10% of the effort on display that day. Point 4 however..........
Yes Billy, without doubt. Mark Proctor missing the penalty which would have taken us 3 up against Barnsley, we got beaten 3-2 and that put us in the relegation play off's I believe - but stand to be corrected.
1987, and that play semi final 2nd leg at roker park. I was mad and sad that we went down and the mags in the roker end only made it worse. Yes that defeat against Barnsley put us in the then first season and only season i think of that type off play-off. I detest the play-offs anyhow teams have been done for finishing 3rd. the teams that finishes 3rd 4th 5th and 6th should play for a champions league place, but you imagine Wenger's face when told that!.
Losing 1-0 at Wimbledon under Reid and going down in a damp squib. We got to the match half hour late as the dickhead bus driver took us to the Valley, just in time for Euell to score a soft near post goal. Horrific day.
1958 and the first ever relegation under Alan Brown. Despite winning our last match against Portsmouth, hearing on the radio that Leicester had beat Birmingham to send us down for the first time ever. Oddly enough, none of the many relegations since, have felt as bad as that day, even when we went down into the old 3rd division. The was the day we lost nearly 70 years of history as never having played outside the top flight.
Glad I never had that to deal with, relegation has been par for the course my entire SAFC supporting life! 1987 was my first full season, so I guess in a way we are considerably better than when I first felt the hook!
A ****ing legend on the south coast, big Laurie is - Mr Southampton. We knew it would all end in tears when he went back to his roots. After leaving the Saints, he should of stuck to advertising Kaliber.
Its Lawrie not Laurie. Was it Barbican he advertised "For men who like to enjoy themselves..................but don't"
