I believe it's a temporary thing too, either to see if they get more business there than in prospect centre but i do think its a waste selling off one floor to Poundland when whoever is letting these shops out could go looking for a big chain who would want atleast 2 floors such as John Lewis? Harrods? not that they'd probably be interested but it shows initiative.

Perhaps they should spend a bit of money doing the outside of the store up so it doesn't look so run down, then advertise it to numerous companies.
Saying that theres alot of empty shops in town that just look run down, something could easily be done to make them look nice despite empty these little pictures in the window don't help too much but they do look quite nice

the one simple way to increase footfall is to return the Market to the City Centre .

I walked down George Street on Monday , **** me it was a state , along with King Edward St !

Another way to help would be to reduce Rents and rates in the CityCentre , im sure theres a few wasteful committees funded by the taxpayer that could be scrapped as unnecessary
    if costings are reduced.
Another idea would be to capture the tourists that hammer York (some of these tourists have travelled thousands of miles) we are barely 40miles away.
Also while im at it sort out Beverley Gate ,
Create proper safe access to Marina

Last is to properly revamp the drab building the ****ing council built in the 60s,70s 80s and 90s.from private investment somehow

Only looked like a couple of buildings in use, Dram Shop n Computer place the rest was empty. Browns was shut but i'm assuming cos it was Sunday??

George Street used to be really nice, Carmichaels was one of the poshest shops in Hull when I was a kid and as a teenager it was home to the Trog Bar and John's punk clothing store(the name of which escapes me at the moment). The Dorchester Cinema was a really nice building too and they replaced it with a piece of ****, this is it just before it was demolished...

Her indoors once stood on a human turd in LaserQuest, it was when it was on Spring Bank.

I recall asking her how she knew it was human.

'Well I didn't see any dogs running around the place'

Anyway she won't go near the place now, she can be a bit funny at times.

I may be wrong but i think i went to see Star Wars at Dorchester. When did it close?

Bali Hai used to be great, Kon Tiki room upstairs real class!! Thursdays used to be 50pence to get in and 50pence a short. If it was really **** we'd just get tanked up there and go to Romeos. I dunno how i used to make it into work on a Friday.

    Has Browns gone?

Got anymore pics OLM, theres a building opposite with the 3 Crowns and another mosaic couldnt make it out.

    So many questions...

It was indeed Changes, thanks for that, it was irritating me not being able to remember the name.

The brand you mentioned is actually La Rocka and the bloke that owns it has been touting it around for years, trying to find someone to license it to, but nobody thinks it's got wide enough recognition. My missus still has a couple of La Rocka leathers.

It was closed in 1979 and was demolished in 1987, before it was a cinema it used to be a theatre called the Grand Opera House. It looked very different before it underwear a refurbishment in 1930, but you can still see the detail that was incorporated into the Dorchester...

The building opposite is Halifax House, one shield is the City of Hull the other looks to be a Yorkshire rose, but other than the fact it was built in 1925, I can't find any info on it...

I seem to remember it relocated to a shop where the outdoor market used to be.

La Rocka indeed. I wore mine with pride. Those who knew..............knew !

I also recall there being a Herbie car on the canopy of the Dorchester when Herbie Rides Again was showing. Impressive.
