Hey all, does anybody else think that some of our players are just showing up on a Saturday just to be paid and don't care about the fans anymore. Take Cisse for example, he was banging them in last season and now he just seems deflated as if he can do no wrong in the eyes of Pardew? I'd drop him to reserves/Europa League and give a few other players a run in the squad (Sameobi) etc. Especially if Pardew seems to want to keep with his horrible 4-4-2 formation.

New poster as well so be nice (please)

Cheers Albert, there are one or two others that spring to mind like Tiote and Krul but they don't stand out as much as Papisse!

Can't agree with Krul as he's saved us time after time. Could be pissed off with what's in front of him.

HELLO HELLO, we are the NOT606TOONSECTION boys...

Know there is not one of us who would not gladly suffer death to rid this board of the badgers once and for all!! <badger>

On the topic of not caring, I don't think Papiss doesn't care (any less than last season anyway). He's a player that smiles a lot and approaches the game in the right way, having lead the line for Freiburg and actually worked quite hard upfront whilst here. His confidence appears to be the issue, to me. It looks shot to pieces and that's because of a distinct lack of goals, which is driven by a distinct lack of chances created by the midfield, which in turn has left him bereft of form when he does get on the ball. European games, premier league games, any games this season there have been few chances created for him, and as a finisher (often spectacular finisher) that's one obvious reason he's scored so few. All strikers go through baron patches, and he's got to keep his chin up and keep smiling. Lately his head has been dropping. Of course, this doesn't mean he shouldn't be making even more of an effort in training.

If we move onto the rest of the squad, I don't think we can level "lack of effort" their way as a general rule, but some of them definitely need to take responsibility for weak individual performances. Cabaye's midfield presence has been diminished, Anita has struggled to look capable in CM, Krul and the defence go long as default, and the overall decision making of the squad has been fairly poor.

There are bright sparks, though. Ben Arfa has been nothing short of sensational, even though he's had to drop deeper and deeper to compensate for his team-mate's poor play, and Santon is surely becoming as good as Jose of old? Added to them, Ba is evidently busting a gut and creating his own chances, and you can see we have half a working team half way up the table, so imagine when the rest of them come to the party!

If I look at the squad, I think we are still short a leader, and someone who actually deserves the captain's armband, for whatever that symbolically represents. Colo is a great player, but he's not an inspiring figure, and I think our lack of these is evident in the stats, considering when the last time we actually came from behind to win was! Too many weak mentalities who are capable when the going is good, but poor when it's tough. Stevie Taylor has the potential, and has indeed fulfilled that role before (though not actually having the armband), but lately seems to be less influential. Perhaps the decision to snub him for Jonas and Colo has had an effect. If I was manager, I would give Stevie it, with due respect to Colo, as I think it would raise his game and ours.

    Welcome Tino.

Good post mate, Cisse has looked rubbish so far this season bar a couple of goals vs easy opposition/going in off his arse. Spot on he needs to be dropped to give him a kick up the arse. 4 months ago I would have said he was our most valuable asset, now though, just a constant headache for the fans. Needs to pull his finger out or he should be expecting to be on the bench in the near future.

I personally don't think any of them are not playing well on purpose. I see plenty of effort but being brutal, the quality is just not there. Its very easy for fans but Pardew has to strike a balance between kicking them up the arse without destroying their confidence. You see SAF do it all the time. Privately he will cane them but in the public eye and sometimes in team selection, he defends them to the hilt.

You can quickly lose a squad by jumping off the deep end and blowing situations out of all proportion. Obviously we need to improve but I think many of our battles are mental at present. That needs some canny coaching from Pardew and his staff.

Papiss would get the Hernandez treatment for me. A spell out of the side with Benni pushed on or Sammi left.

papisse will come good. he just needs to believe that he will come good.

frankly, the harder he tries, the less effective he's likely to be. when he everything is going in he just does waht comes naturally, and everything goes in. now, nothing is going in. he tries to make every run and finds himself off side. he tries to bury every shot and ends of snatching them. he is in the horrible situation that he is worryong so much about scoring that he is far too tense ot score (a state in which I passed my late adooescence, incidentally)
